Saturday Saved- The Best for Last #1
My brilliant blogpal Windy who blogs from Windmill on the Hill came up with a new Meme entitled Saturday Saved- The Best for Last.
I am not only participating in this new meme to support a friend but because I strongly believe that this is a great way to showcase our articles which we think deserves wider readership. This meme aims of achieving that. The article could be newly written or it could come from your archives.
This week’s featured article is entitled WHEN ALL YOUR POSTS ARE NOTHING BUT PAID POSTS:
I am one of the many bloggers who is enjoying one of the countless perks of blogging- getting paid to blog. When I first came to blog, it’s primarily because I want to express and not to impress. Then came the companies who were able to lure me with a few bucks by writing for them. Indeed, it became a huge motivation for me to stay infront of my PC longer hours than necessary. And why not? I get to earn dollars by just writing a few words.
I am FOR paid blogging but while I get to enjoy the monetary aspect of it, we must admit that it also has its downsides.
BLOG CONTENT IS SACRIFICED
Though I have always believed and emphasized that quality is subjective, content is still KING. When one gets to write a post with a couple of paid links for advertisers and there’s a need to beat the deadline, the tendency is for one to be in a hurry and just write in random, include the needed links, hit the publish button and get paid. That’s all there is to it. I admit I am guilty as charged. Sometimes I even forget that there is a certain ratio needed for paid reviews versus personal posts- 1:2 is ideal. It’s hard to do it especially when one has multiple blogs (like me). I admit I can only manage to have one (1) interim post after each paid reviews.
What’s striking here, and frustrating I must say, is that we can see a LOT of blogs where every post is a paid post. Some even don’t write an interim post when there is no new assignment at hand. In my opinion, it will hurt our blog if we do that more often. Just take for instance this blog. It was ranked 3 by Google a couple of weeks back. When I grabbed assignments from one identified affliate for a week, my Page Rank dropped to 2. Why am I not surprised at all? I know Google is a little unpredictable but the heck with Page Ranks!
Now going back to paid posts, I do not know the technical consequences of it, but personally, seeing blogs bombarded by paid links is rather dismal. I always take more than three (3) hours a day dropping cards on blogs, reading and commenting. I admit there are a few blogs where I do the “drop and run” phenomenon. I am sorry but your posts must be bombarded with paid links. If it’s any consolation at all, majority of the blogs I get to spend more of my time are those that are very interesting to me and they are all worth spending my time.
I don’t want to cease being a passionate blogger. I truly enjoy the REAL perks of blogging and that is free speech. I can get to write whatever comes to mind in random, paid post or not. I don’t want to disappoint my visitors when they take time to visit my blogs and all I can offer are paid links. I don’t want to steal your time and waste it by letting you know that my advertisers have become my master. Though I don’t write for an audience, I feel I should be responsible for whatever things I write because I am involved in some communities where I am inviting my fellow bloggers to visit my blogs (EntreCard, MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog, etc.).
UNDERMINING READERS’ INTELLIGENCE
While it’s true that most of us are paid to blog, a lot of bloggers have quite forgotten that personal posts should be written by REAL people. Some bloggers tend to plagiarize just for the sole purpose of breaking the monotony by writing paid reviews. Bloggers must exude prudence and decency to give credit to where it is due when quoting or copying someone’s work. We can not always undermine our reader’s intelligence more so fool them in believing that we are such a great writer. We are not fooling them but we are only fooling ourselves!
As what, Tony Feriozzi, Payu2Blog support staff warned and I quote:
“What I have run into a few times now is a blog full of 60 word posts with links, all paid and nothing else. That blog, if thats all it is, will eventually not get assignments. So do your best to do some real posts on your blogs if you aren’t already, it will be better for you and us. “
Let us all remember that with blogging comes responsibility. And blogging is not about how articulate and eloquent we are as a writer. It’s about the effort we put in by writing down our OWN thoughts, generating pleasure just by doing it and how we convey every message we wanted relayed to our readers (if there’s any, hehe!).

Happy Father’s Day!
To complement the celebration of Mother’s day every second Sunday of May, Father’s Day is being celebrated every third Sunday of June in most countries including the Philippines. Relatively speaking, we honor our fathers today recognizing them for being the real foundation of every family. Of course, it wouldn’t have been possible for us to see the light of day without their precious seMEN, hehe! That is just putting a little humor into it 
This day made me miss my father more and more! Sure, like all fathers, he isn’t perfect but he tried his best. We aren’t well off. Basically, things were scarce. Though my parents were pretty young when they got married and were completely unprepared with the responsibilities that came along with marriage, I admire them hugely for taking on the challenge. They were able to battle life’s challenges together. Despite life’s adversities, my father was able to provide for his entire family and even sent my mother to school until she got a Bachelor’s degree.
My father was the funniest and the sweetest person I know. On special occasions, he would surprise my mother of mailed greeting cards and flowers. He loves to poke fun at everyone. But he has stringently enforced though non-verbally that I should be without a boyfriend until I finish school. True enough, I had my first boyfriend at the age of 22 when I already had my own job. I am an obedient daughter, you know, hehehe!
I can still recall how proud my father was of me being his only girl. I can see from his face that he was swelling with pride when I graduated from college and got my own job.
If only things were different…
If only he was able to see how his only girl has grown and matured into the person that he wants her to be…
If only he was able to witness the formation and growth of Kuerdas as GenSan’s homegrown talent…
If only he’s here to share with his family’s progress and achievements …
My father sacrificed a lot for our family. I can’t claim that I am a perfect daughter but I wish I was better when he was with us…

If only I could say “Thank You, Pang” for loving us as only a father knows how….
I could go on and bore you with more IF ONLY’S but it doesn’t change the fact that my father is no longer with us. The day he left us was a nightmare. That was the most painful event that has ever happened in my life!
He was with me at the hospital when I got confined six years ago and he promised me he will come back. But he never did. Life is harsh, brutal and short. That is why it is said, Life is what we make out of it.
Today, I want to reminisce the wonderful moments that I got to spend with my father. I want to remember all the great deeds and sacrifices he made for his love for our family. My father is my hero. He was able to save my life when I near drowned in 1995. I wouldn’t be here today if not for him. I had to fight for my life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 3 days but I was able to survive. Thanks to him for getting me out of the water in time and applying artificial breathing via mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
There were lots of fond, sweet and treasured memories. And it all boils down to one thing:
I have the best Papa in the world!

The Judges Spoke, You Spoke… Now I Speak: To Judge or Not To Judge
This is something that should have been published much earlier and it has taken me quite a while to get down to doing it. There were extenuating reasons for the delay but I have to get it done. I did say that the names of the Judges for the Lainy’s Hottest Blogoversary Writing Competition: A Bloggers Celebration would be made known.
The Contest would not have had that extra “oomph” had it not been for the manner in which the Judges most ably handled the Contestants’ entries.
Understandably, Judges like the rest of us, they are human and their perceptions come under duress when scoring the Contestants for their efforts. It is never easy to say anything that would be deemed unpleasant.
Therein lies the need to fairly accept the Judges’ comments. They did it in good faith and never intentioned to demean or belittle the efforts contributed at the Blogoversary Contest.
After all, was it not the clamor from several Contestants that they wished to know what the Judges had to say about their evaluation on their entries?
A few adjustments were made at a later stage as to what format the Judges would have their Comments known. This resulted in an overall Judges’ Comment rather than producing a Contestant by Contestant comment. I agreed to that decision because it would be more tactful than to draw a Contestant into direct line of fire.
Besides, this is an Open Writing Contest and it is not a classroom.
I know you wish me to stop right here and move on with the purpose for this article .. and it is the names of the Judges that you are solely interested in.
But in keeping with good grace and decorum, I should extend a hearty THANK YOU to our three Judges. Had it not been for their quality and commitment to judging the Contest with a professional attitude, I would think that the Blogoversary Contest could have had a contentious ending.
As you may or may not agree with how the Blogoversary Contest was handled when it was regrettably “abused” at the Polls, we all have learned something from it. Difficult decisions must never be avoided for one thing.
There was a heartbeat stop when I had to decide on the matter of disqualifying a cantankerous Contestant. How I would have loved that I did not have to face such a dilemma. Had it not been for the unyielding decision of the Judges to disqualify that Contestant, I think I would have blundered and the Contest would have been mired deeper in emotional debates and factionalism.
That is one example of how and where the Judges’ role became poignant and their resources was invaluably tapped.
I could go on with more and bore you. But we owe it to the steadfastness of our three Judges who kept the Contest moving on and on an even keel.
Granted, the reaction from readers and from the Contestants to all three Judges’ Comments is your unassailable right. I do not question that right.
However, let me repeat, the Judges commented because YOU ASKED FOR IT.
And obviously you forgot to tell the Judges to say ONLY NICE THINGS.
So it is not the fault of the Judges that they said it all.
I know that it is all now gone under and past that bridge. But I have the same right as anyone else and being the Organizer to set it down fairly because NONE OF THE JUDGES RETURNED TO COMMENT ON YOUR COMMENTS.
Yes, they are that professional.
