It goes without saying that the two trips I had at the hospital in a span of less than a week is horrible.
The hospital is the last place I want to be in. Nobody ever wants to get sick. On the first occasion, my mother rushed me to the dreadful hospital in the wee hours of the morning on May 29.
It was because of respiratory difficulties and I was literally gasping for breath. I felt like I was approaching my last. You cannot feel what it is like when one is faced with such a critical need for medical attention. I had been sick and down many times in the past but last Friday’s attack was never like the past. That was the worst asthma attack I had in my entire life. My blood pressure at the Emergency Room surged and skyrocketed to 140/120. That was due to the struggle I had the entire night.
At the hospital, I had to endure the needles poked into swollen veins and other various tests. I had to endure the not-so-yummy food served. I had to endure being alone in the hospital room most of the time. I wanted to be discharged the next day but my attending physician suspected pneumonia so I had to follow orders. Thank God pneumonia was ruled out the following day!
Before finally going home, my co-workers took some time to pay me a visit. I sincerely appreciate their comradeship. And of course, my blogpals who never ceased to leave their well wishes for my speedy recovery. You all gave me strength and your words of encouragement and sympathy sincerely warmed my heart which made me truly proud that I am a blogger!

Then, after leaving the hospital, I had to maintain some really expensive meds and nebulizations for 4 more days. The meds gave me tremors and left me feeling week after each intake.
Friday, June 5, I had to see the doctor again for follow-up check up at 11Am. When I arrived at the clinic, my blood pressure was checked. I saw the look of surprise on the doctor’s attendant when she asked me: “Ma’am are you feeling OK? Your blood pressure is not normal.” I retorted back: No, I don’t feel OK. I feel an excruciating pain because of the terrible headache I had since early this morning…”
150/120.
160/ 120.
Those were my Blood Pressures for 4 hours that they monitored me. And it refused to go down. The doctor feared that I might have an episode of aneurysm. I don’t know what that means. She further said that my BP should be closely monitored overnight. I don’t own a gadget to do that. It would be better to have me readmitted at the hospital so other tests can be done: blood, sugar, creatinine, 2d echo, etc, that’s according to the doctor.
I did not want another confinement because that would mean more expenses. But my mother was real worried and told me to follow the doctor’s orders despite me convincing her that there’s really no need for me to be readmitted.

The second trip to the hospital was again an agony. I have a slightly elevated cholesterol level (hypercholesterolemia). The doctor put me on a low fat and low salt diet.
Most of the time, I was all by myself. It gave me time to reflect and realized that I haven’t lived a healthy lifestyle. I saw the need and the importance of keeping watch of my diet and doing regular exercises.
With my mother…

I can imagine Windy’s face while he was giving me all those health lectures and his I-TOLD-YOU-SO look was clearly imprinted and registered in my mind. And what a mockery! When I reached home from the hospital, he even posted “Lainy-Belle, Does This Ring A Bell” at his blog that left me laughing my heart out! You’re really one of a kind, Windy!
Some blogpals took time out to personally see how I was at the hospital- Star, Twinks, Tammy and Rosilie. I truly appreciate the gesture, girls!
I haven’t been blogging too much of late the way I used to. The culprit was the stress I was into for the month that was. Birthdays here and there. I singlehandedly did all the preparations- groceries, cooking, etc. My body wasn’t able to cope. I had inadvertently pushed myself to the edge. But soon I want to blog about Yaman Gensan 2009.
Our body and our health is a gift from our Creator. Indeed, health is wealth. We only have one body and we need to take good care of it. One don’t need to be a health buff to realize it. Our life will sure take on a new meaning and new dimensions if we are in excellent shape.

So good to see you out of the hospital and that everything is okay now. My son has horrible asthma, so, while I don’t know exactly what it is like, I can empathize with what you have been through this last week. Just seeing the terror on his face when his asthma is out of control is enough to make a mother fall to her knees. Bless your mom for taking you in. Mom’s know.
Now, take it easy and get your strength up!

Get Well Soon Lainy. Take Care of Yourself and don’t stress so much. Asthma is triggered by too much stress and emotional tension. your bloodpressure and your inability to breathe are because you STRESSED OUT ! Partys are not that important. no one should be put in the position of an asthma attack and almost stroke from someone’s party. that is not fun. You Lainy need to Put YOU First on Your List – ALWAYS.
I hope you will start eating right, and at least walking 10 thousand steps a day to help restore your health. If you’d like to do a step to health on our blogs as partners, I’m In. even though I’m in the us and your in Phillipines, we can still do it together, as we do with our blogs.
think about it and if you want to do it, lets encourage fitness this summer and get gorgeous ourselves.
Hugs and Cheers to You My Blogging Buddy, God Bless
sis, it took you this long to realize that health is wealth? haha! how many times did Windy remind you that? i was laughing too when i saw his “told yuh so” post, i can sense he’s been so good in telling you to take care of your health. hehe.. it’s so good to see you back! your hospital smiles are still ok, still made you looked pretty!
but one thing’s sure: hospital days are indeed horrible! even the smell of it, i don’t want to inhale! your mom was the most worried person that time, i bet. i can tell you are still her little girl until now! sweet….
i have a little difficulty in breathing right now because i was dusting here and there yesterday and i am just thankful i didn’t have the episode last night. it’s still manageable and fruits continue to give me the best meds! i hope tuloy-tuloy na ang paggaling sis!
and oh… i just have to say this: you’re different when you say you’re gonna lie a bit low in blogging. talagsaon kaayo ba kay ang lie-low kahaba-habang post man diay!
hahaha! keep ‘em coming though!
Hallo Lainy, I am so pleased that you are once again back home. I for one have missed you being around. You will need to take things a little more easier on the blogging front, I think – to give your body a chance at retaining its health and strength back properly. Try and get out in the fresh air and rest.
It’s good to see you smiling once more, take care dear friend and GET WELL SOON!

Hi, I agree talaga sa sinabi mo na the last place na gusto nating puntahan is the hospital. The same feeling when I was admitted for 15 days…Anyways, am glad your back! Basta ingat lang kasi sobrang taas ng BP mo halos humabol ka sa BP ko noon na 180/140 very thankful lang talaga ako now kasi bumalik na sa normal 120/80 na uli
. Piece of advice lang iwas ka muna sa maalat then inom ka marami water mabilis yan maka normalized ng dugo then take a lot of rest kasi ang stress (puyat and all) sobra maka trigger ng pagtaas ng BP. Eat healthy and stay safe lagi…. GOD BLESS and hope to chat with you soon! mwahhhhhhhh
good to hear you’re back.. pero blogging lagi dayon oi .. naka rest na ba ka? hehe.. pero in fairness hospital pics nimo guapa jud kau gyapon saon.. pahiyom oh! grabi naba ana kaduha gi confine oi sa sulod sa usa ka semana? agwantaha ang maidlot nga tunok sa dagum.. naningil na lawas mo kay dili daw siya machine gi abusahan sa amo.. aw forgive me.. wala ko nang lection ha.. sulti ba lang!
I’m glad to hear you’re finally out of the hospital. This time, wala ng balikan ha.
The high blood pressure must have been triggered by your asthma itself or it could have been from the meds too. Just like antihistamines for allergy, they can increase blood pressure.
I take antihistamine everyday to control my allergies (hives and sneezing) while at the same time I take anti-hypertensive pills everyday too. But I had HBP prior to acquiring my allergies.
Take it easy and obey doctor’s orders. Health is wealth sis, so make sure you take care of yourself.
te i hope you’d fully recover na talga! it’s sooo expensive to get sick, right? so eat and sleep right. don’t be stubborn na! hehehehe…and exercise na talga! love you te! don’t want you to get sick anymore! hehehhe… tc! mwah!
I’m glad to know that you are better now! Take care Sis! Be cautious always and always try to live a healthy life. God bless you!

Glad to have you back. Yes, you are right, we are the one responsible for our health and yet a lot of time we take it for granted. I have been watching my diet and doing regular exercises. Take good care of your health and it will take care of you. More power to you.

@ LISA-ALTERITY:
Hi Lisa!
I’d like to personally and sincerely thank you for your well wishes when I was sick and down. I truly appreciate your words of encouragement and sympathy.
I wish your son never had asthma, too. It’s so difficult to have attacks like that worst one I had last week.
Anyway, Thanks for everything. May God bless you more and more and the rest of your family!
@ RECEL:
Hahahaha!
I really am very stubborn, Sis!
Yeah, right! Windmill is a very good health “mentor”. But being the stubborn girl that I am, mao jud ni akoa!
I can not do that you’re doing- dusting here and there- I will have an attack right after doing that. Ohh, yeah! I remember you also have asthma. You’ll be OK so long as it’s tolerable… I think yours is what they call “controlled asthma”…
@ RECEL:
Hahahaha!
This post is actually in my draft the first time I got out of the hospital, Sis. A little lengthy coz of my second confinement.
Lie low a bit? I think that is a big contradiction in itself! I just can’t help it. So many things to write about, hehe!

BTW, anino man lagi gihapon ka dinhe? Wala paka ka-upload pic sa gravatar.com?
@ POLLY:
Hi Polly Dearie! Thanks for everything. Missed you, too. Sorry wasn’t able to keep in touch via email. I will make it up. Thanks for the email you’ve sent me before I got readmitted at the hospital.
I’ll find time to do what you say, Polly no matter how busy life is over here.
Take care always!
@ BREGIE:
Yeah, it’s hard to get hospitalized. I’m sure you really had a difficult time when you were in the same situation as I was.. 15 days, imagine that?
Oh yeah! My BP wasn’t really normal coz of my age. Now I have to be sure I am on a low salt, low fat diet. That means no bulad, no bagoong, no french fries, sigh!
My BP has stabilized now but there’s really a need for me to keep watch of my diet because of the above normal level of my cholesterol.
Yes Dear, I was able to take a rest for 2 days before I completed this post. It’s in my draft last week so there’s really no problem finishing this one up.
Guafa? Aw, inborn kuno daw na sya, hahahaha! Agwanta jud sa dagom uy, hastang sakita!
Hala! Nakasab-an man ta ani, hahaha! Bitaw tinuod.
Thanks Sis! Wala ng balikan to!
I have yet to reply to your email. I will have to do that tonite when I get home from work.
Yeah, I think the high BP was due to the meds I was taking. Hypertensive ka rin pala?
@ ALLY:
Try ko wag na maging stubborn, Bang, hahahaha!
Lab you, too! Miss yah! Uwi ka na!!!
