Moms Will Always Be Moms

Now that I live on my own and still a wee bit struggling to be independent sans family by my side and the like , I miss the ceaseless nagging of my Mom before my ears. How ironic to miss it all when heaven knows how much I have always resented that before.

Those were the days when peepz mistake us as siblings, hahaha!

My Mom and I in 2005

After a long day’s hard work, my Mom and I would usually exchange stories of what had transpired the entire day. I miss seeing her slouching on the couch looking so tired and eventually dozing off to sleep still with her working uniform on. I miss seeing her eavesdropping at my brothers’ private conversation or taking a sneak peek at my Instant Messages at YM.

Mother and daughter tandem at Kuerdas gig

Mom and I again in one of the out-of-town gig of Kuerdas. Isn't it obvious that she's a certified stage mother, LOL!

I could go on with more and bore you but I believe the feeling is mutual. This week, she had unusually bombarded me with SMSes to remind me of a lot of things. She never failed to tell me the following:

  1. Never forget to say your prayers before going to sleep.
  2. Don’t overeat at dinner.
  3. Don’t sleep on your back to prevent having nightmares.
  4. Don’t forget to lock your doors.

Have you noticed they all begin with DON’Ts? Hahaha! I think that’s the one thing that my Mom had never learned in child psychology. I am not a mother as of yet but having worked for an Early Childhood Education Center before, I have learned one of the salient ECCD Principles and Philosophies in the psychology of disciplining a child and that’s not to say NEVER or DON’T when trying to get something across.

But anyway, it’s so hard to teach an old dog new tricks. One thing is for sure though, the facts stated above were only but a few proof that my Mom is concerned about me and my welfare and yeah, she misses me a lot too ;-) I just finished speaking to her on the phone couple of minutes ago and she told me similar stuff I have mentioned earlier, LOL!

The God Mommy and the bridesmaid ;-)

Mothers’ doting love for their children is immeasurable. My decision to live on my own was not  met with a very favorable regard at first by the queen of the household. That’s a given having to grow up in a culture with close family ties. Most elders would find my decision taboo. As a matter of fact, I felt like I have the need  to explain to everyone around me the reasons why I moved out.

Generally, a woman from my country would separate from her parents ONLY when she gets married or inevitable circumstances would make her so like working far away from home.   As I was beginning to settle in here in the pad, eventually, my mother unknowingly showed her support as manifested by her actions. She would often tell me to “bring this and that” in my pad, hehe.

I firmly believe that in the end, my decision will be self-rewarding and soon enough, I just know my Mom will reap the results as well. It’s not my parents’ fault that I grew up to be stubborn at times but I daresay I am just a strong-willed woman, hik hik hik

Mom-daughter tandem is the best! I may not have one with my own mom; I wish to develop and nurture one with my own daughter. It’s funny that as early as now, no matter how strict and tough I am as a mom to my Triz, she still treats me as the best mom there is! LOL. As with the DON’Ts, hahaha, I am laughing with how your mom showed them off to you, Sis! She is so protective and caring that’s for sure!

As a mom now, the DON’T phenomenon (LOL) sometimes works and sometimes not. Thus, it’s always better when there is an alternate option.

Mang-invite diay ko for my WW entries Sis!

Just as daughters will always be daughters to their moms.. well I am at least referring to myself, hehe. and I can honestly see my mom and myself sa inyong duha sa imong mama, Len. Often dili ka tuo ang mga tao na anak ko nya instead they look at us as igsoon, waaa…

Another thing they have in common is kanang magduka tawon while still in work uniform. Makasandig lang gani gamay labi na mag tan-aw ug evening news sa TV. Unsaon for the love of work, dili pa gyud gusto mo retire. :D

Lastly, bahala unsay ikasulti sa uban nimong readers but I must say I am proud na anak ko sa akong mama and I’m sure for every reason there is , you have it to say the same, right Len?

I should know so. Your mom’s look says it all. ;)

Yes Nance! Your Mom must have married at a very young age, just like my Mom, hehe!

Hala ka! hahahaha! Ma-imagine jud nako na bah! Wala pay apil ang paghagok dinha nga hastang kusoga, nyahahahaha!

That’s my girl kaayo ka, Nance hehehe! Your Mom must be very proud of you, too. Just like you, I am proud to be my Mom’s daughter as well. Basta kay anything decent you could see in this blog is because of my parents, anything else is simply NOT their fault but mine, hahahaha!

Mothers give us the love and protection and comforting arms to make us grow and become whole. They offer us the wisdom of life but at some time, in order that we may bloom and reach the perfect beauty that our souls may shine then we have to break away from the nest. We all do this and most of us have the knowledge that we can always return for a visit and share our dreams.

  10. I can’t wait to leave home and have my own place when I was growing up. But when I eventually have my own home, I missed my Mom and Dad very much. Even Mom’s nagging sounds like music when I go home once a while. :P EastCoastLife´s last [type] ..National Cook Curry Day – Cook A Pot of Curry – PH
