I often have looked at those tall buildings in pictures and whenever I am in the City and wondered how amazing it is that man has been able to scale buildings to such heady heights.
There is so much reliance on new inventions and improved materials to make tall buildings possible. Apart from creating a solid foundation, the core of the steel building is not usually seen but it is the mainstay of what makes tall buildings possible.
The amazing tensile strength of steel as building material has created new skylines in all cities throughout the World.
As written in my previous article H E R E, I wasn’t able to celebrate my 25th birthday with my entire family. The thought that it might be my last celebration with them here in the Philippines gave me that sobering emotions.
When I finally was able to manage my schedule, my family planned a surprise post-birthday dinner on October 31. Hmmm, I wasn’t actually surprised because my mother frequently have slips of the tongue, LOL! which eventually divulged their supposed-to-be surprises.
They tried to outdo the cake I had last year with me having three (3) little ones this time.
The venue chosen for dining out was at Amandari Cove where Kuerdas Band incidentally performed for the After Party of the First Season of the Search for the Next Ramp Model.
We had a great time enjoying the yummy and delectable menus we ordered for the night.
And of course, the blowing of the candle for my 25th birthday was never forgotten.
It was a night full of eating, fun and party.
Indeed, there can never be a happier time than to celebrate occasions with family and friends.
This post is long overdue. Nevertheless, it is most appropriate to pay homage to those who remembered and have never forgotten to wish me well on my birthday despite my being in absentia for ages at the blogs.
First in the list would be the brilliant blogpal, Windy, who had published his Birthday wishes H E R E as early as October 27. The personalized birthday e-card which he had creatively conceptualized made it even more special. And him declaring the occasion as my 16th birthday instead of it being my 25th, truly touched and melted my heart. (Oops! it’s still flowing all over my computer set… LOL!)
It did not end there. Windy made sure he was the first one to greet me via SMS at the stroke of midnight on October 29:
Many, many happy returns of October 29, Lainy. At the crossroads of your life, May God be with you and guide you. May you find happiness and fulfillment.
Ally, my pretty cousin, was right on time to wish me the best on the very day of my birth. Thanks so much for the yummy cake!
Twerlyn, my long-time high school and blogging buddy, once more shared her poetic skills by composing a beautiful poem written in Filipino dedicated specially for me.
Here it goes:
Maligayang kaarawan, Leyn!
Hehe!
Love you my friend!
Isn’t she so sweet?
My Boss, who hasn’t been actively blogging for ages (LOL!) took the time and the effort to send his birthday greetings via the famous social networking site, Facebook and after which he made a call just to be sure that his greetings had reached me
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the support and everything that you have done to our office. Keep up the good work..
David Funkcaught me off-guard when I was featured in the headline of the Daily for the October 29, 2010 issue. Through this birthday tribute, he had once more proven his artistic ability in surprising friends. Good job, my friend!
I was a little surprised but was surely elated to have seen the influx of quite a handful of messages on my phone as well as at my Facebook wall from fellow bloggers, friends, co-workers, relatives, classmates, churchmates, etc. It was only then that I realized the Facebook birthday setting was displayed for everyone to see, LOL!
And to round it off, my 25th Birthday celebration was another fun day.
To all of you who have not been mentioned here but have sincerely extended your birthday greetings and wishes,
I just celebrated my birthday and here I am now trying to take stock of how one year has grown since.
There was a time, a long time really, when I had the zip and the zest to blog incessantly. It was a novel way for me to get acquainted with many Bloggers who now have become regular pals with me over the time.
Since my Birthday last year, the culmination of preparatory work for the May 10, 2010 Automated Elections in the Philippines took its toll on my health. Dreadfully long hours at work prevented me from being fully engaged at all my Blogs.
I have had memorable Birthday celebrations in my yesteryears. The fondest would be the one that was grandly celebrated last year. Last year’s birthday was the first time that I ever had a birthday cake. It wasn’t just an ordinary cake, to say the least. It was also the time when I declared to be 25 forever until I invoke my right to change my mind, haha!
My recent birthday celebration is the twilight of my birthday life in the Philippines as it is expected that if all goes accordingly to our (my fiance and I) plans, and of course in God’s own time and with His grace and Divine Providence, my next Birthday celebration will be in Sydney, Australia. Yes, and it has such a sobering effect on my personal life, that I shall no longer be celebrating the occasion with Mama Dearest and my beloved siblings at Home Sweet Home.
So sober that I was expecting it to be a spartan Birthday, without the simple yet fun and joy that I have been so accustomed to in all the years gone by. However, the Boss who blogs from Bottom Lines scheduled an out-of-town Team Building Activity for all Personnel at work on the very day of my birth. He was actually unaware that it was my birthday. I was like huh?!
What haunted me prior to my birthday was my family who’s not used to celebrating the occasion without the celebrant, LOL! I had no time to even prepare for a small celebration because of the toxic schedule at work. I only planned of dining out with them. It got me to thinking hard when I learned that my two brothers were booked for an out-of-town show with Kuerdas. Although my mother and I were both uncomfortable with the set-up because we weren’t used to gatecrashing, I deemed it best to ask the Boss to allow my mother to come along with me since she will be in her lonesome at home. The Boss gladly said “OK.” I had really no choice but to ask his permission because I don’t want my Pretty Mama sitting in the corner of the house worrying about her children.
We traveled more than an hour from Gensan before we reached the fine, white sand beach of Gumasa. It was my first time to set foot in that breathtaking place. I used to hear great things about Gumasa in the past especially from my brothers who were often invited to perform in Glan’s Lubi-Lubi Festival. The place is obviously untouched and certainly a pride of all Sarangans.
Though everyone felt totally exhausted from the previous days’ 24-hour bout at work during the October 25, 2010 Synchronized Barangay and SK Elections in the country, my birthday turned-out to be filled with singing, eating, lots of fun and oh yeah! Photoshoot
That is one most remembered quote from Shakespeare’s play, “Hamlet” of course. It has been used in seasons for those with vacillating minds.
And that would apply somewhat the same to say, “To lipofuse or not to lipofuse, that is the question especially for the troubled obese.
Burning off fat is not as easy as merely writing up a DO list. Many get disheartened and lose interest after doing what they thought would be the solution to losing weight.
The answer is why not, what have you to lose if you did? Or does anyone have a better solution in the absence of anything untried.
The kind of work that I am employed to do deals with a humongous amount of paperwork. No, we have not gone paperless yet and I do not see that ever happening.
Then of course, you can imagine what it looks like when trying to retrieve a silly though important document in the rat’s nest at the Office. Yes, it turns the Office into a “war zone” of papers.
It is time that those “above” think proactively and install a professional document management system for us. There is so much time wasted searching for documents and this makes work unproductive to say the least.
After being a conscientious father, the last thing any father would want to deal with is the unexpected. In this instance, Windy received a frantic phone call from his youngest son, Kevin.
Last month as the story goes, Windy was rudely awakened from his afternoon nap with this.
“Dad! I met with a bad accident along the Pasir Gudang Highway. The car is badly messed up.”
“Are you injured?”
“No, Dad, just frightened by it. What do I do now?”
“Good. Remain cool. Make no agreements with the other party till I reach you.”
And then Windy went on to explain it was frustration after frustration as he tried to make his way to meet Kevin at the accident location.
First, the car he borrowed from his neighbor to get him to where Kevin was, broke down at the first traffic lights and could not be started. He had to wait for over an hour before the car service arrived and hauled away his neighbor’s car.
Then he had to monitor everything with Kevin by remote control which of course he has acquired a great deal of experience from doing things remotely here at Blogosphere. Hahaha.
Finally, he was surprisingly blessed when he found out that the chief of the Car Repair Workshop was an ex-classmate of his eldest son, Alvin. He was given red carpet customer service and the car was repaired in a record time, considering the Insurance red tape, Police report and how it is like in his country when everyone has his/her hand in the cookie jar for that extra windfall – called bribe money to get things done.
I confess that I am obsessed with taking photographs and I have never thought of taking photography as a profession.
At the present moment I have a simple Digital Camera which does fine for me. Well, not actually when I found out about the features and what a Canon camera can do.
It surely does much more than the simple Digital Camera that I use and for sure, I would be able to take much clearer and better photos with what the automatic sensors does. I have added this to my wish list.
A better camera for a birthday gift…. Hmmmm. Why not? I hope someone would hear me, LOL!
For the harried and overworked male in today’s stressful environment, it has been medically ascertained that men have become victims of their own pursuits in success – incapacitated with their own libido.
This disconcerting result has spawned a multi-billion industry that manufactures every conceivable solution for men who are adversely affected.
The problem is that for the ordinary man-on-the-street, there is no way of knowing which solution delivers what it claims it does.
There is an answer to that in the form of extenze side effects and is worth a read.
