Blogging A-Go-Go Or Blogging A-Yo-Yo?

3,813 views

Lots of things have kept me preoccupied online and offline. I have been around but I haven’t had the time to interact with most of Lainy’s Musings’ regulars as much as I wished to. It actually was a sluggish week for me as far as regular postings and networking with my bloggging comrades. My blogging comrades have been my regular mantras to regain back much of the lost traffic at LM and yeah, the lost zest and passion for blogging.

I thank this blog’s co-author Windy for publishing some relevant articles for Lainy’s Musings. I am grateful because you always come to the rescue :D

I have noticed that blogging has taken a somewhat different dimension over the years. To quote David of David’s Musings in his article, Blogging: Does it Have a Future?:

“It seems with the advent of microblogging platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, to just name a few, blogging with good solid content was considered obsolete. Why post a five-hundred word count blog post when you can get your point across in just 140 characters on Twitter?”

Amongst several repetitive no brainers that spawn in Blogosphere, one of them is the ever persistent “Meme”.

Please don’t get me wrong.

Tags and memes are one of the best ways to develop strong camaraderie and bonding between and among co-bloggers.  But it’s about time that some truths prevail amongst bloggers.  The liberal handout of various kinds of memes  can get very confusing particularly with the more complex  kinds and its repetitiveness has made its original intent rather outmoded.

On the other hand, it does come handy to serve as an interim article for bloggers,  like me, who do paid postings. However, on the blogging downside, more often than not, blog quality is being put on the line when paid post articles are published. Though quality is subjective even to the discerning reader, I have always believed that content is still king.

There is reason that underscores why some bloggers have become rather selective when they publish their articles. Published material has dwindled to skimpy 2 sentences, single paragraph with a couple of images to idiomatically support that “a picture paints a thousand words“.

So it appears that both, the heightened time and interest of yesteryear blogging has waned considerably.

  1. Gee, you really hit the spot there. I think I’m part of the “guilty party” here, since most (if not all) of what I do is meme. :(
    But at least I make those memes into my own custom projects and I try to be consistent with them, and I always try to make them not as single-paragraphed posts and provide sufficient information (except the WW which I do mean to make it wordless). So, it’s still something right? :roll: No? :? Con Artist Trickster´s last [type] ..Wordless Wednesday- Awesome Comic Sketches and Illustrations – Frank Miller

    @Con Artist Trickster,

    Hey Cat! You deserve an award for having the courage to speak out your mind. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical in publishing this post. I was thinking a lot would shy away from hitting the comment section. That’s what I had to pay for telling the truth, LOL!

    I admire you for being non-hypocritical about this. Just like what I’ve recently posted in your published MM, I so appreciate the manner you present the memes. The informations attached to the meme are very well researched and laid out. I wish I could have the luxury of time doing that, too.

    Anyways, you’re on the right track and you’re one of the few bloggers who have been actively reading and posting comments everywhere. I wish I could do that, too :P

    Hala uy! What a beautiful compliment Sis. Thanks but there are a helluva lot of blogs out there like yours who could express eloquently with or without memes.

    Apir Lermz! I am actually guilty as charged too, LOL!

    I understand why there’s a need for you to curtail your personal postings. I also am very careful now of what I publish especially when it gets too personal. I have learned from our bad experience, LOL! We should be aware of some limitations in wearing our hearts on our sleeves.

    Stalkers will always be there. Mamatay nalang na sila sa inggit nimo, haha!

    Ouch! Guilty here! I must admit that I neglected my blogs when I started working. This must be a “gasgas” word but I just don’t have time anymore especially when I don’t get enough opps and I lost interest in blogging. Then, all I do is the memes, surveys or simply post a picture with a little description in it and I am done.

    I always say, I will go back into writing even though my writing skills is limited, reading no more? (someone will make a big issue about it, LOL). Of course, I will continue to read blogs but I can’t assure myself to write something. I don’t know. My interest and motivation is slowing down. Oh well… I will keep on trying.

    Have a nice day, Lainy!

    @Hazelicious,

    At least you’re too honest to say you’re guilty, Pretty Hazie, LOL! Anyways, it’s your blog and you can do anything with it.

    I hear you. It’s a little difficult to keep up with the blogs especially when we have regular jobs to attend to offline.

    Don’t remind me of the scuffle, haha! Is that “someone” still alive? LOL!

    At least you still can find time to update your blogs despite your toxic schedule and even had the time to publish a comment at this humble blog of mine.

    May you enjoy the rest of the day! :D

    I, too, am guilty of the “meme” bandwagon. My favorite is the Wordless Wednesday. For me, it helps fill in the gaps for the days that I can’t think of a single thing to write a blog post about.

    Other times, I have so many saved drafts that it’s hard to pick which one to post first, so I guess it balances out.

    @Vickie,

    For the longest time. Wordless Wednesday have been around and is the only meme that I know of that doesn’t require writing down your thoughts otherwise the essence of it being wordless is lost., LOL!

    At least you still manage to write some drafts keeping a balance to memes vs. non-memes. I am rather selective in the memes I am joining. There are a lot out there that are really nice which develops creative thinking.

  6. Windy says:

    In my blogging opinion, blogging has digressed so much from what it originally began as, as a Web log. And true to every form of human endeavor, blogging has had its fair share of evolution.

    Or would I rather now term it as “evilution” simply because whatever evolved with blogging has lent more downside effects to it rather than elevate it.

    By conjuring ways to evaluate Blogs, by extending the Blog as a marketing tool and thereby monetizing the Blog turning it into an e-Commerce tool, by introducing competitiveness amongst Blogs for what is plainly a personal hobby – all these and more remove the element of personalization and what the Blog intrinsically is defined.

    Left to the creative whims of bloggers themselves, even the Blog Awards and Blog appreciations take on a facade of sycophancy as the proliferation of “be mine at your Blog” matters more than even knowing who the Blogger is as an individual.

    Demons have taken hold of blogging and out goes the essence of what blogging once was.

    It is no surprise that many Bloggers soon found that they started to lose their personal identity with their Blog(s) and eventually got waylaid by all the fads that surround blogging.

  7. When I was very new in blogging, I tried to follow some “meme” for a couple of times. But naturally, I am the kind of person who sets my own trail, shows my own style and wants to be accepted for who I really am. :)
    Lately, I got tired blogging to be honest. If not for my supportive offline friends and online blogging pals, I would never continue.

    You tackled the topic very well. You are so brave to point out your ideas. Well, you always are. :)

    Ouchh.. I admit I am guilty of charge. I am one of the few who keeps on joining meme. From monday to sunday, can’t think of a good post and I am pressured to have an interim post. Sometimes I am also posting one line sentence or even one paragraph just to have an updated blog everyday. Blame it to me, because I dont have the skills to write but I am TRYING HARD my best. I dont have brilliant minds not even an amazing idea, that is why I am joining meme. It may be non sense hehehe.. but at least it save my day.

    Nice post Lainy, just trying to defend myself. (defensive kaayo nohh) :D :D :D

  12. Yes, content is still the KING. I think meme’s work for those who got nothing to post right away. Sometimes, I join this tagging game or kind of post if I have free time or if the topic is really interesting. But I think too frequent meme’s can hurt your site’s content because Google may think of the questions/rules as a duplicate because it will appear on other’s blogs, too.

    I guess the meme trend is born out of the quintessential human problem of having not enough time to do things. It can also be a case of writer’s block, though not all will care to admit it.
