My Newfound Hobby

I never am a sporty type of person. I have never involved myself in any type of sports activities not unless it is required of me.

Last year, I was forced to play darts because I was chosen to represent Region XII in the COMELEC Mindanao Goodwill Games. They chose me not because I was the best player in town. They just had no choice because there’s no other person who’s a little younger (hehe!) who’s willing to take on the challenge.

During my college years, I was left with little choice. I had to come to class for our Physical Education classes or else, I will get a failing grade. No student would ever want that. In my P.E. classes, I have learned the basics of basketball, badminton, table tennis and other similar sports activities. Even then, I never really felt I belong to those people who are active and does outdoor sports activities.

However, I love to watch basketball games especially when my favorite team is on the run. It has been a passion and I take simple pleasure just by seeing my team win their games. And how heartbreaking it is to see them lose! Whenever I watch them play their guts out on court, hearing me shriek and cheer for them is normal. Don’t come near me when they lose though! I can eat you whole, hahaha! Yes, I admit I am a huge basketball fanatic. I can be a good basketball analyst, too, hehe! :D

Anyhow, I have realized the importance of becoming more active when I was diagnosed to have hypertension last year. Exercise and diet were the most important things I’ve relegated to the sidelines. My battle with hypertension was never easy. I have to remember Windy’s constant reminders and reprimands to help me get my health back on track. I had to restrain myself in doing the things I love doing before that couldn’t contribute to my recovery.

My good friend Polly of Random Ramblings was helping me out too by sending me articles on how to normalize my blood pressure. One helpful article was from Dr. Mercola. Just like Windy, the physician emphasized that “regular exercise is a far better drug than anything a pharmaceutical company can manufacture, as are the ‘side effects’ of exercise. Regardless of the primary reason you start an exercise program, your efforts will be rewarded in countless other ways.” It further emphasized that it can have long-term benefits especially when one indulges in weight bearing exercises like jogging, walking, and running. Since I’ve got asthma, I can’t jog nor run. I did what Windy was doing to put his diabetes under control. I took brisk walking seriously. Walking an hour has become a habit.

But just recently, I discovered a new form of hobby that I truly enjoyed doing. Since a badminton court is just a few meters away from our house, I have decided to try it one night after work. I felt renewed and invigorated! I never really felt active in my life as I did when I played badminton! I came back for more and I tell you, I am now hooked up, LOL! Feeling so exhausted after a long day’s hard work never stopped me from playing the game. I am all fired up too in learning some tricks, and who knows? I can even join some tournaments one day :D

Here are some captures when we had our badminton session last Thursday. Do scroll down for more views.

HAPPY WEEKEND EVERYONE!

It is unquestionably a good way to develop and to maintain a healthy body – physical exercise at any age. This is a good start for you considering that you are late bloomer.

Whether you have chosen the right kind of physical exercise is another matter that may find an answer from these explanations.

I would not encourage my children or friends to play badminton. It can’t be what it stands for simply by reason of its namesake. The enthusiast is sufficiently forewarned. It’s Bad-minton. Had the game been christened Goodminton, it would have my vote of confidence.

From what is known about badminton, it demands not only skill but also needs agility and limitless stamina. It is the same kind of physical qualities that BEDminton would require. In turn that explains why a shuttleCOCK is needed to play the game. Isn’t that amazing?

The sport accepts mixed doubles as one of the play variants. Interesting. And no, that does not mean swapping partners. Just plain and simple – mixed; one male and one female.

For the more imaginative, what would a serve, smash, backhand shot, drop shot or diving shot connote for BEDminton, correction, I meant, Badminton?

But then again, I know that the real name for the game is BEDminton. For crying out loud, why does the game umpire declare, “Love All – Play, Begin”?

You most certainly chose the perfect physical exercise.

May the force be with you.

HA! HA! HA! HA! I was truly laughing my heart out over here. Your explanation struck me. I never thought of BEDminton & shuttleCOCK in that light. I am wholesome, LOL!

You’re one hell of a naughty guy! I think you only have one thing in mind, hahahaha!

Thank you very much for making me smile first thing in the morning. I truly appreciate your sharing your thoughts and for injecting some naughty stuffs in my head, hahahaha! :D :D :D :D :D

    Hi Lainy!

Now I like this entry! Seeing Lainy in action in a sporting game no matter what it is a good thing! I know you’re quite the basketball fan, and I was really surprised you weren’t a star in that sport in school.

I’ve only played badminton a few times myself. I like that I’ve heard a few other Filipino friends mention that game before on blogs, too.

    And Windy’s comment was funny!

Good weekend to you my friend!

Well Lainy, you look positively amazing. So bright and agile and a figure to die for – you should be a model you easily compete with a ‘Bond’ girl. …………. I think we will all have to take up both darts and badminton – they obviously work much better than anything else.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend ….. but watch out for looking so amazing as you do you could be whisked off by a Prince on a White Charger (horse). :) .-= Polly´s last blog ..The oldest English joke =-.
