I shall take a break from writing about aversion for negative Bloggers and instead write what I think makes a Blog more sought after than others.
Barring that you are not a rocket scientist, a controversial politician, a celebrity, a cult figure or the latest heart throb sensation because what I am about to say will never mean anything. By their own achievement or endowment, these kind of achievers would have the opposite problem. Their personal privacy and time is sacrosanct.
Therefore, with the 99 percent who are not in that league and are hopelessly addicted to blogging, there are merely two factors to deal with . The person who blogs and the Blog. This is outrageously simple but there’s more to it than meets the eye.
What is expected of the person who blogs?
Now we’ve entered a minefield because there is a psychology aspect for what makes one person more appealing than another. Oh! and this is not about Blog etiquette. Rather, I am writing about the individual, the Blogger per se.
It would be expected of a person who blogs to have these qualities:
1. Respectful
2. Tactful
3. Has a good sense of humor and is able to laugh at himself
4. Down to earth goodness and honest
5. Does not sway to extremes
6. Writes truthfully
7. Writes without fear or favor
8. Gets involved and is objective
9. Has good moral values
10. Doesn’t preach
GOLDEN EXCEPTION: By all means, slap back when a foul mouthed, dirty old bag, nondescript crank with slimy venom repeatedly agitates and disturbs the peace at your Blog. You’re not expected to be a living saint!
I think that a Blogger should possess those basic personal qualities in order to foster a good rapport.
Moving on…the second that needs to be assayed is his tool – the Blog. In this regard the content always comes before anything else he does at his Blog.
What is expected of a Blog?
It really does not matter what classification of Blog it is. Readers visit Blogs that suit their preference. Therefore, the search and visit is on a level.
The Content should be:
1. Written in simple, easy to understand language.
2. The content should reflect originality of the mind and personality behind it.
3. The written material should elicit others to wish to leave a Comment.
4. The article should be written is an unaffected style.
5. The article should not have a closed loop. It should stimulate readers to want to share their views.
6. The content should strive to impart information rather than drone and drivel about vacillating personal moods and hormonal changes.
7. Inclusion of related images provides added interest.
8. Arguments should remain forthright and objective.
9. Avoid being Quixotic when writing something personal.
10. Be mindful that the reader hasn’t the whole day so spare the reader from rigmarole.
What about the rest of the stuff that fills a Blog?
As for the other stuff that is displayed at the Blog, each has its own merit and the choice should always be a matter of functionality and personal liking.
Regardless of what choices are made such as widgets and what-have-you, keep the Blog layout pleasant, properly positioned and organized.
Choice of color and theme have an aesthetic appeal because first impressions do count.
Traffic and Blog rank has grown to be a very much overstated issue for Blogs. It’s Blogosphere’s equivalent of the rat race. The pundits give divergent opinions about its real worth. Others make a living out of it by providing guaranteed results to enhance the Blog’s Traffic and rank.
I believe that if a person is able to satisfy most of what is explained here, both the person and his Blog will be sought after.
Now that I have finished what I needed to explain, my observation is that it is really not that simple. It is not that simple because there are not that many persons and their Blog who are being sought after.
If you haven’t noticed here is some of the silly routine that goes by day after day:
1. Bloggers who are too immersed with their daily “drops” either to carve out that profit margin or to enforce traffic to their Blog.
It is a ridiculous round robin exercise of “I drop you;You drop me” that goes daily, repeatedly. It reminds me of the Nursery Rhyme…
A pocket full of posies;
Drop EC! Drop Adgitize! Drop Whatever!
We all fall down.
…and fall down, that’s for sure because it also depends on the number of Blogs a person has to do that. How much real effort goes to minding the intrinsic quality of the Blog?.
2. Bloggers pop-in and pop-out at breakneck speed and so the essence of blogging is relegated.
3. Bloggers who feel brain drained after completing their paid posts without the will to think what to write any more than just a lame article.
4. Bloggers whose written article deteriorates with time for lack of time needed to think creatively.
5. Bloggers who talk much but say little.
6. Bloggers who fight shy of writing what they think and who they really are.
7. Bloggers who devote their entire Blog to one same old, same old. Makes anyone sit up to wonder how on earth the person never tires of it.
8. Bloggers who first appeared charging and then got burnt out.
9. Bloggers who leave footprints of themselves that does not make anyone interested in them or their Blog.
10. Bloggers who believe they must be served and theirs is not to serve.
Hence, taking it in reverse and choosing the lesser “evil” if a person is able to avoid those 10 silly routines, there is a greater possibility for the Blog to be enhanced because there is more focus and more time is devoted for the published content.

Thanks Lermz! Ikaw jud baya akoang no. 1 avid reader, hehe!
It maybe true that we can’t take one quantum leap but we need to persevere and make progress step by step:
1. Write what we think.
2. Be humble and we need to ask a mentor to help to show how we can improve.
3. Confidence is gained through greater use and familiarity with the second language. Learning an English word a day if we have the time will broaden our vocabulary.
With Andy around, I know your progress will be smooth sailing

Hi I really enjoyed this article it was well thought out and well presented.
I have to admit I spend a lot of time thinking about why I blog & sometimes just worrying that I am just addicted to the internet and browsing websites….That i should be out there in the real world doing more real stuff (if you know what i mean)?
Then, I try to tell myself it is fulfilling a creative urge within me … I only hope that while it is doing that – that sometimes people stop, read and enjoy a little of the stuff I actually post.
Cheers!

@Geri,
Hello Geri! I am glad you enjoyed reading through this rather lengthy article. Not too many bloggers would take the time to do that
Same here. Blogging is so addictive and it’s hard to get off the hook. Sometimes, we have to remind ourselves that there’s more to life than blogging.
You are a very good writer, Geri. I am sure you have your own following who appreciates your work. It’s very sad to know though that not too many bloggers these days would love to visit and leave off comments to very well thought of and well-written articles not unless you join the bandwagon of memes. It’s just my plain observation though. Blogging has definitely lost steam. Gone were those days when we bloggers used to hit the publish button with “CONTENT IS KING” in our minds. But anyways, to each his own. Blogging is still the best avenue to express and exercise our passion for writing.
Cheers to more years of blogging!

Thanks a lot Lainy, it’s really hard to make a blog popular. One thing is for sure, it won’t happen over night. People should participate in the community and make friends and it’s nice to see people like you who are trying to help out

@Peter Lee,
You are most welcome, Peter. It’s great t o see you here.
Indeed, a blog’s fame and glory takes a lot of hardwork. You have to make your presence felt to be able to be recognized… and that would definitely require time and extra effort.

I’m glad I picked another stellar blog entry such as this to make a comment on for the first time since….maybe your last acting gig. Okay, don’t look it up to find out! Ha!
But seriously, this should be required reading on what it takes to build an audience for a blog. It’s that damn funkin good!
For me, the reason is simple why my blog audience has dropped off which is lack of activity. Though I’m guilty of some of what is mentioned in this entry, I’ve always thought it was important to attract an audience in your own way and not go with the same ordinary approach that most everyone else uses. Simply put, you have to dare to be different in my humble opinion. But that’s just me.
Anyway, great entry once again!
Best wishes my friend!

OMG! Look who’s here! Is this a sign of a huge come back from you, my friend??? I ‘ve missed you heaps!
Thank you for believing this is another “stellar blog entry”. What a sweet compliment coming from you… the producer of all my acting gigs, LOL! Now I am out of the limelight and I attribute it mainly coz you’re out of it too and never produced any movie for me for like almost 2 years?! Hahaha!
Don’t worry, David. I am guilty as charged too, LOL! DARE TO BE DIFFERENT. I love that!
But of course! You’re one of a kind when it comes to coming up with something new and different at the blogs. Talk about the helluva lot of movies you’ve produced for us

wow, lainy. i couldn’t have said it better than that. muntik akong ninosebleed. ang galing galing! accurately observed and put into words. *clap clap clap*
for me naman, at first talaga, i started blogging simply to write lang and in private, without intending to share what i write. pero i read someone wrote that it’s not a blog if people doesn’t read it, so since then i changed the setting of my blog to public. hehe. then, i learned that blogging comes with perks, that is you can meet other bloggers and learn from their writings too, as well as earn and generate income through blogging. but until now, my original intention of to write and be read stays as the main objective of my blog.

@KM,
Hahahaha! Salamat sa masigabong palakpakan, KM. LOL!
Yeah, I’ve read that somewhere at your blog that it used to be private. Good thing you decided to have it viewed by us, kundi pa, di sana tayo nagkakilala and I wouldn’t have met a good blogger like you
So aptly said. Blogging is when you intend to share your thoughts with your readers. It has a lot of perks. I believe I have learned to become a better person through blogging by reading through other people’s experiences. But then, there’s always room for improvement. I admit, I myself is still a work in progress. Sana lang kasing galing mo rin akong sumulat
Please keep on writing, KM. I am learning a lot from you- the style in which you express your thoughts into words is something new. It’s so refreshing! And I must say that you have achieved your goal- you have been heard! LOUD!

naku, nakakataba naman ng puso yang sinabi mo
honestly, nung una ko napadpad dito sa blog mo, as in humanga kagad talaga ako. kasi alam mo saktong sakto talaga yung sinabi mo jan sa silly routine, and halos yung mga nababasa ko noon na blog eh, parang hit and miss kung baga. pero dito sa blogs mo, naaliw ako, kasi blogs with a purpose talaga. makikita mo yung passion nung writer sa pagsulat and that you really put in your effort to write effectively that makes your readers hooked into your blogs – hindi lang basta makapagsulat or may ma-i-blog ika nga.
and so true, there’s always room for improvement. i’m learning a lot from you too. and i hope you know one day eh maka level up din ng pagsusulat at makagawa ng post katulad nitong post mong ‘to. dami kong nababasang posts mo dito na may nosebleed effect sa’kin na tipong wow talaga at feeling ko eh hindi ko kaya magsulat ng ganun. at every time may maling spelling na na-ca-catch si vince sa blogs ko, ikaw na din naiisip ko kasi nabasa ko din dito na medyo oc-oc ka sa spelling. hehe.
kaya keep on blogging din, lainy, kasi dami kang na-sh-share dito sa fellow bloggers mo from your experience in blogging and writing skills as well. hanggang mag gray na ang hair natin at magkarayuma, magsulat pa din tayo, wag tayong magpa-gapi. aja aja fighting!

@KM,
I mean it, Karen
Salamat sa paghanga. The feeling is actually mutual. We both share the same passion in writing.
Maalala ko nga, when I published something and I told Windy how many hours or how many days ang binuno ko just to complete the article, abot sa Pinas ang hagalpak nya ng tawa, hahaha! He can’t believe na ganon katagal ang inabot para sa isang post lang. LOL! Pinaka-idol ko si Windy sa pagsusulat eh. He can write lots of articles in just one sitting. Sana maambunan man lang ako ng kahit konting writing skill ni Windy
Marami pa akong Filipino blogpals that I really admire their style in writing. Isa ka na don
Hahaha! Natawa ako sa pagka OC ko sa spelling. Pero I really aimed that even if I don’t write perfect English, at least man lang sa spelling, ma- perfect ko. May konswelo din naman pala kasi one time, there was one commenter who noticed and appreciated that one post was perfect in spelling (if not in grammar, LOL! Sorry nalang ang mga grammar cops dyan, hahaha!)
Pasensya ka na sa mga nosebleed effect. When I was at the height of my blogging journey, my traffic was about 40K, most of the visitors of this blog were non-Filipinos. I even implemented posting comments in English. Kasi non- Pinoys would request translation.
Siempre naman, kaya mo ring magsulat ng merong nosebleed effect. In fact, most of your posts ganon din. Try to lurk around the blogosphere, with due respect, not too many are as good as you. Pero siempre, di naman yon ang pinakamahalaga. What’s important is we are able to express and impart something in our own little way. And that we imbibe inspiration, somehow. Everyday is a learning experience. As long as we open our doors to new ways of learning, we will keep improving.
I can see both of us still blogging even if we reach the age of Windy and Papaleng

This is a very nice post…. real content. I still have to learn how to do this…make my blog more sought after. But somehow there’s just so much in real life right now that I have to prioritize. Glad to have dropped by your blog, Lainy.
