To begin with, that’s a stupid question - “why does one Blog?” but necessary just for the sake of this article, if I may add.
Apart from monetary reasons, since e-Commerce and other Services have found their presence at Blogs and forced Blogs to migrate from its traditional path, the Blog despite it all has grown by geometric progression.
A Personal Endeavor
It provides the latitude for an individual to devote time to deliver something he thinks is important enough. In doing so with a Blog it also enables him to commingle with the blogging fraternity.
For some a Blog is the best way to “get it out of their system” so to speak, as it affords a catharsis in some way. You know, like after having a spat with your spouse or sweetheart or friend. The Blog is the inevitable Paracetemol. You could compare the Blog to a facial puss-filled acne just waiting to be relieved.
Then there are the cry-babies, seeking attention through the use of their Blog. Perhaps for these they either feel neglected or unable to have even a 5 minute conversation with their spouse without their house roof caving in.
These and numerous other personal reasons motivate an individual to join the status quo by adding a URL or more to their list of personal possessions.
Is blogging invasive?
It is definitely invasive. The only activity one can assume that isn’t would be if one decides to be a hermit.
For as long as the Blog is active, the Blogger is subjected to a rewording of Thomas A. Kempis’ phrase:
Every Blogger will have to accept the reality that he is surrounded from the sweet-toothed to those that are fanged.
Blog Diversions
Tales of virtual romance and those that led some to the Vows of Marriage are known.
The broadening of both knowledge and acquaintances is another.
I shall leave out the regrettable side of what transpires simply because that is not what a Blog is ever meant to be.
Of late, Social Networks have seized on the immense number of Blogs and these social networks have evolved with a remarkable makeover. Remote cellular links has also given a few Social Networks a fillip while they aspire to share the same pedestal as Blogs.
The Cycle of Reinvention
Has the Blog gone a full circle and like it’s predecessors is on its way out? Like the emails, the Chat Rooms and Forums, is the Blog being diminished by other avant-garde electronic gadgets?
I believe Blogs will approach that eventually. Arguably personal free-time will be shrunk even further and the time spent at the Computers will be forcefully minimized. Why right now even as I write this article, my cellular phone is being spammed by advertisers and news that I never registered for.
Wireless Internet connections are available at specific Coffee houses as a growing in-house feature. There is even a Bus Transport Company that provides wireless Internet link for the few on-the-go passengers whose bread and butter depends on a Notebook or a Laptop. These are now the visible symptoms of a breach from the traditional Internet Cafe services and Desktop at home situations.
Even the present popularity of Social Networks might take a backseat unless they transform their reach in ways greater than what they are now.
Going Futuristic – Blog with your hand held cellular phone
As one would do it with a Desktop PC or laptop, the geniuses of blogging platforms such as Google’s blogspot and WordPress may extend their longevity. That is if they are not already at their drawing boards brainstorming how one can Blog with the use of a cellular phone in ways never thought possible before.

General Santos Time

For myself, I blog partly because I have a message to put forward and partly as a release.
I could be in the street shouting at people, which doesn’t look good so I blog instead.

Thanks for sharing your reasons why you blog. There are a number of bloggers who just go with the flow and does not even know the reasons of their existence in the blogosphere. But most are here because their blogs have been the extension of themselves, their blogs have obviously become their alter egos as have been the case for me

I agree with James,
for the first time of blogging, I really want to write and spread it to my friends.
But then, blogging activities grow my networks and broadening my aims to get visible and hopefully getting more profesional.
and this is fun:)

There are thousand and one reasons why people engaged in blogging. For whatever it is, let us keep in mind that any information we share on the net can spread out immediately. So think about it carefully before writing it down in your blog. You would not want the blog community talking about the fight you had with your spouse, do you ?

I blog because I am a writer to the core and it’s a lot easier than looking for freelance work (which I still do as well lol). I adore writing and I’m an attention whore.

another one of your wise musings which never fail to amaze me, lainy !
blogging definitely turned out to be one of the most effective tools of modern communication, exemplifying freedom of speech in true sense. this meant too that blogging comes with responsibility.
i started my blog in 2008, although i kept it private then. it served as my electronic diary back then, when i wanted to pour my heart aches and emotions to someone (or rather something) who could not answer me back. every once in a while i would share it then to very few people. i needed a “niche” where i could vent out and found comfort in blogging. until recently, i read a blogger’s quip saying something like, “it’s not a blog if people cannot or do not read it.” this gave me the courage to put my blog in public. in the process, i realized that there are so much to learn in blogging – and so many people to meet too. up to this time, i still consider my blog as my electronic diary – but now opened to some degree – and hoping to inspire other bloggers too.
i’m really glad to have chanced upon your blogs, lainy. not only you blog with your brain but also with your heart. i find them very substantial and informative. keep on blogging, girl!
