Laying Down My Cards

Posted by: Scotty's Princess | Comments Comments Off

I have always wanted to venture into a small business of some sort. One that could give additional income on the side apart from the salary I get from my 8-5 job. I have noticed that quite a number of individuals resign from their jobs and venture into business. They prefer the income generated from putting up a business than relying solely on the meager monthly income. I wonder if they ever had business plan consultants before they embarked in that endeavor.

Well, I still have to do a feasibility study as to what business would be good in the market. After doing such, that’s the time I will be embarking in a new undertaking. That sure will need quite an amount for the starting capital. I need to lay down my cards as early as now. :-)

This is a SCREAM when I learned that YAMAN GENSAN 2009 will be bringing Side A All Hits Live In Gensan! Who wouldn’t recognize Side A Band’s popular songs? Hits such as – Forevermore, Until Then, Only You, Tell Me, Umagang Kay Ganda, So Many Questions. Sooo familiar, right? If Eraserheads are considered to be the Beattles of the Philippines, Side A Band, on the other hand, is the country’s equivalent of Toto. The band is known for popularizing soft rock music.

During my teens, a personal favorite song was their hitsong Tell Me. It was popularized by Joey Albert in the 1990’s. Not only was I enamored and dazzled by the performer but also by the lyrics. It sank into my impressionable young heart and mind. Though it was a sad song, it was repeatedly sung on karaoke but unfortunately, the song doesn’t like me, haha! :D

Well, those were the days! It’s a pity that Joey Albert though still an entertainer, she has left the Philippines. It’s a good thing Side A, was able to relive my favorite song when they revived Tell Me. They gave a superb and very moving rendition of the song which left so many hopeless romantics in an efferverscent mood with dreamy, dreamy eyes! – like me

Side A Band’s live performance is slated for July 17 at Lagao Gymnasium, General Santos City and is brought to us by Grab-A-Crab Restaurant and Coffee Club 101, the same Entertainment Promoter that was responsible for David Pomeranz’s performance here in February this year. The restaurant is one of the finest in GenSan. It is renowned for offering fabulous, sumptuous and delectable cuisines for the gastronomical delight of the Generals!

The Side A concert is in line with the month-long business celebration of YAMAN GENSAN 2009 which is slated on June 23, 2009- July 23, 2009. The annual undertaking is already on its seventh year. It shall showcase the various activities and highlight the progress of the small to medium enterprises (SME’s) in keeping with the economic development plans for General Santos. YAMAN GENSAN 2009 bears the theme Negosyo, Kaya Mo” . Yaman is actually the shortened term for Yabong Maliliit na Negosyo sa Gensan! This is the official battlecry of the Local Government of Gensan to provide support for the small to medium entrepreneurs

One of the main events of YAMAN GENSAN 2009 would be Yaman Awards. The successful and deserving entrepreneurs shall get due recognition for their effort in giving Gensan’s economic viability the fillip it needs by increasing global awareness amongst the business communities. Job Fairs, seminars, Kasalan sa GenSan are just a few of the activities prepared for this year’s grand YAMAN GENSAN celebration.

YAMAN GENSAN has indeed come a long way! I vividly recall when it was only starting out as a small event in the city. It was at the 2nd YAMAN GENSAN celebration when the Kuerdas Band Major composed a song for this event (I will feature this with a separate Post).

YAMAN GENSAN 2009 is a collaborative effort of the Local Government of General Santos City, Department of Trade and Industry Region XII and SMED Council. The efforts of the team behind this grand event is promising and the benefits are tangible!

Kudos to all Generals!
