Come Oktoberfest With Me!

Saturday Saved- The Best for Last # 10

Guys! I am so lost I don’t know how to start writing this. But if I may borrow from  Windy, he has given me a clue, he named it  Lainy’s Oktoberfest at his Post where I was the featured blogger for the month of October.

And now, I can’t keep my birthday low profile even though I have impressed my wish to my Pretty Mama at home. I just want a very quiet birthday but Windy wouldn’t have it.

So, after giving it some thought, I said to myself, what the heck! A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. This is what I have for a small celebration for the occasion. I invite you to participate in  Lainy’s Oktoberfest Treasure Hunt.

There are no Awards for this. It is just for fun and the memory of having shared it with you.

This is how  Lainy’s Oktoberfest Treasure Hunt is to be played.

This is how Lainy’s Oktoberfest Treasure Hunt is to be played.
1. Each day, I shall publish a Treasure Hunt clue.
: 2. Those who sign up to participate in this TH will need to read the clue and head off.
  1. Each day, starting October 7 until October 18, I shall publish a Treasure Hunt clue.
  2. Those who sign up to participate in this Treasure Hunt will need to read the clue and head off.
  3. At the end of the Treasure Hunt trail, each participant has to prepare an article to answer the 12 questions.
  4. Your Post will have to include the Meme -  Lainy’s Oktoberfest that was created by Windy. You benefit from the link traffic given by the Meme link at McKlinky.
  5. At the end of the Treasure Hunt, the winner(s) will receive a Memento Badge Award.

I understand that you may feel that some other typical form of Winner Awards would make it more colorful but blame Windy for it because he came up with his  Lainy’s Oktorberfest so sudden and I don’t have the time to go round canvassing for sponsors.

In fact, I was so surprised that I was tongue tied when I saw his Post that featured me and my Blog for October. I am not too sure though if I deserve the accolade but I hope I live up to Windy’s expectations.

Happy hunting everyone! Hot, hot hot and a bottle of rhum!

Saturday Saved- The Best for Last # 10

With quite a handful of my blogpals calling it quits at EntreCard, I deemed it best to republish an old article entitled Some of the Reasons Why More and More People Are Leaving EntreCard which I had first published in December 21, 2008., I find it so timely that it prompted me to recall from my archive for the purpose of this article.

Here it is:

I was saddened by the news that a number of my Top Droppers have now made a decision to leave EntreCard for good. One of them is WorldWide Travel Blog who has been a consistent Top Dropper across my blogs for a number of months and I will absolutely miss seeing his widget in my inbox. But guaranteed, that this isn’t goodbye because I will continue to visit his blog with or without the EC widget at his blog.

With the increasing number of bloggers making the decision to depart from the realms of EntreCard, I have made a summary of some of the major reasons why they have come to a decisive point leaving the EntreCard community. Some of these list are picked from some popular bloggers and I will be linking up to them at the bottom of this post.

A CLEAR WASTE OF TIME

No one is ever compelled to drop 300 cards each day! But to get the best out of EntreCard, one must drop to the maximum 300 cards per blog. Many EntreCarders refused to be a slave by spending their time dropping cards and use up hours and hours of going through blogs. Once you don’t have a speedy connection, it will take you forever to finish the task more so if you’ll be dropping for multiple blogs. Knowing the tricks on how to drop quick in just a matter of 30 minutes would help. I have actually shared some of my Dropping Techniques in the past:

My EntreCard Dropping Techniques Unleashed (Part 1)

My EntreCard Dropping Techniques Unleashed (Part 2)

I do not know how I was able to manage dropping 1, 200 cards everyday with my 4 blogs since I also have a full time work apart from blogging but much of the credit goes to my cousin Allena of In the Eyes of the Beholder who does the dropping chores on my behalf numerous times. I personally wouldn’t think this is a poorly invested time because I love getting a glimpse of other people’s viewpoints and thoughts. I daresay I have quite learned a lot from other people’s various ideas.

POOR QUALITY BLOGS

Yes, EntreCard may have failed in strictly implementing the Updated Quality Standards but since quality is subjective I can’t say much on the matter. I personally love going through blogs on a wide variety of topics and categories and I can put up with anything.

Some think that sub par and poor quality blogs possess the following:

Blogs that are nothing but paid posts – I have recently made a post out of this.

Slow blogs – Yeah! A number of them takes forever to load. Please put that video off and please turn off that autoplay music! I’ve had enough of these blogs. Good thing I am using the No Script Add On feature so I’m not quite affected.

Out of date blogs – It’s quite disappointing to see numerous blogs who were able to take time dropping their cards without updating their blogs. I can see lots of them. To get a wide readership, I understand that updating ones own blog is a must.

Poorly written content (grammar and spelling mistakes) – Many of the bloggers are using English as a second language. I am no exception. I am still a work in progress but English as a second language is no excuse for me not to brush up. There is always room for improvement. Some faux pas though are understandable. We just need to double our effort in learning the art of writing in a much respectable level. That is, being able to deliver a clear and comprehensible message to our visitors.

Well, if an EntreCarder is too particular of the above mentioned points, I am urging you to report blogs to the EC admin so that they can impose sanctions on those identified blogs. Notwithstanding the points earlier pointed out, I feel that blogging should be open to all levels of literacy and topics. EntreCard must be very careful when imposing sanctions though since QUALITY per se vary from one person to another.

A COMMUNITY INFESTED BY WAHMS/ SAHMS

I felt bad when I learned that one blogger particularly pointed out that one reason he is leaving the community is because of the SAHMS. I do not want to rebut him but with all due respect to the SAHMS, they are wonderful! You see, to each his own. I have high regard for them because they were able to make the most out of their time blogging aside from child-rearing and taking care of their own homes. Creating that balance is not easy. I owe them much of my traffic and majority of the good friends I have acquired from EntreCard are the SAHMS. To all of you blogging Mommies, Long Live!

POOR SYSTEM

Unannounced downtimes and outages is indeed very annoying! At least we deserve to know when service failure would take place ahead of time so that we can adjust. Though EntreCard have failed to send us notices for service failures umpteen times, I have to commend them for upgraded and better service.

JUNK TRAFFIC

EntreCard is a free advertising site. We expect to get traffic via the 125 x 125 slots we have purchased from other blogs. But since the price of advertising for popular blogs is too much for an ordinary member to afford, the ordinary members are drowned in the sea of active EC power users who were able to take advantage of the system. Added to this is the “drop and run” phenomena where blogs don’t really get long term traffic. I can’t say much about this but since EntreCard, this blog’s traffic had gone up to 100K plus and I couldn’t have done it if not for EntreCard.

POOR MANAGEMENT

One of the things that triggered some members to leave was Graham’s decision in deleting some popular members from the system. Turnip of Power, one of my Top Droppers, have been deleted for using Twitter. Quite a number of members now think that is such a crappy and silly decision from the management. ENTRECRAP as they have called it should have known better. Does Graham believe in second chances? Is a second chance being asked?

RECENT UPDATES:

As of today, September 26, 2009, more and more EntreCarders are telling the world that It’s the end of EntreCard, Now and Forever, AMEN! It’s the goodbye post by the ever so brilliant Windy and for him, EC is history. My friend Jackie of The Painted Veil is likewise saying cheribye EC! Among the popular blogs who declared fleeing the EntreCard community are The Virtual Dime Museum, Symphony of Love, and Politicus. US.

WHAT’S SO TERRIBLY WRONG?

EntreCard is in terrible quandary. After Graham Langdon sold it off to its present owner which is being represented by Cindy Ung, ALL members were expecting some more great changes and developments, at the very least we deserve something that will deter us from quitting.

THE PAID ADS

This has been the contention even before EC was bought off by Zip Runner. However, when the new owner took over, they assured the members that they will never generate money at the expense of EntreCarders.

But lo and behold!

Cindy Ung ate all her words! Isn’t she the one speaking now telling us upfront that “in order to continue providing this free service, we will be taking 15% of our entire ad network inventory for sponsors as of Sept. 28, 09.”

MY SAY:

What the hell is Cindy Ung talking about? I vehemently disagree on this as I cannot let a third party service gaining control over my blog in whatever manner. Although it is a given fact that EC provides free traffic for my blog, but hey! My blog is MINE to control and I can’t simply allow outsiders “milking” for survival at the expense of MY OWN blog. I’ve worked hard for the stupendous gain with my Alexa rank which currently stands at 63, 247. These sponsor ads getting FREE exposure from my blog is UNJUST and UNFAIR! The management should better think hard and fast and come up with a workable remedy SOON. Members are getting so fed up by their fickle-minded decision-making.

The proposed 15% Inventory for sponsors is UNACCEPTABLE! It will be as disastrous as PAID ADS! What’s the vast difference anyway?

Ever since I began with Adgitize (which I owe much of my knowledge from a newfound blogpal, Eli of Business Sphere, I noticed that my traffic had a sudden surge. Therefore, I cannot give EC the entire credit for being instrumental with regards to being the only best option available to drive traffic to my Blog

Saturday Saved- The Best for Last # 9

When I was a newbie blogger in 2007, receiving awards and being tagged always make my day. Admittedly,  I have gained quite a handful of friends from doing memes, receiving and passing on awards. These awards still proliferate in the blogosphere and which gives warmth to the hearts of many bloggers.

I still have to post some long over due awards from friends who never forgotten to include me in their long list of friends. Pardon me for my indolence and procrastination. Rest assured that I appreciate the gesture and I will have to grab them all as long as my time permits.

For now, I will have to flaunt this wonderful   Double Diamond Blogger Award from my creative, talented and intelligent blogpal Windy of Windmill on the Hill. The award entails invincibility. And what made this award more beautiful and meaningful is that it is NON-TRANSFERRABLE!

Lainy160

I was suffering from a splitting headache when I got home from work Friday night. I didn’t linger in front of my PC and just went to bed. I had no plans of drifting off to sleep that long but I did! I woke up at 12 midnight and immediately head over  to read the post  Windy had instructed me to read as I was told he has something in store for me.

If I may just quote:

She is a remarkable woman and Blogger. Despite her intermittent health problems she has continuously pursued with her passion for blogging – and it’s not one but three active Blogs simultaneously. I don’t have the stamina to accomplish that. (I actually have 4 blogs).

It is amazing how much is achievable even though there is the obvious physical distance between Bloggers from around the World. Different beliefs and cultural backgrounds that would tend to make understanding and relationship a tad difficult.

Lainy who has a robust traffic at her Blogs keeps rising to the occasion every single time and she has excelled at her Blogs. I’ve learned a few additional Blog related issues from Lainy. I am grateful to her for being generous and patient with a cranky old man who is getting slower and slower at doing things. Ha ha ha.

I was totally floored! I can’t even find the words to say anything! It’s not everyday that someone as intelligent as Windy could have described me the way he did in his post. I could hardly believe it when someone like Windy could actually learn things from an ordinary person like me- even if it’s just a few things, LOL!  That is one huge compliment!

Thank you for this lovely award, Windy! What a disticnt privilege and honor being one of the recipients. I am truly humbled!

Thank you for everything!

For my Saturday Saved- The Best for Last featured post this week, I deemed it best to republish my previous post My EntreCard Dropping Techniques Unleashed (Part I). It was first published on September 6, 2008 when all my 3 blogs climbed up to Top 75 Popular blogs at Entrecard. Lainy’s Musings took center stage when it stole the No. 2 spot for a few hours, LOL! The post was to also heed the call  by fellow EntreCarders to write something about how I was doing my crazy drops.

Here it is:

My EntreCard Dropping Techniques Unleashed (Part I)

image_entrecard
I just do not know if I am actually the right person to be writing this post. I do not consider myself an “expert” on the “ins” and “outs” of Entrecard-dropping. I have been getting quite a number of messages from my Entrecard inbox asking me where have I learned so much. Some were asking me to share my SECRETS for my “success” at Entrecard and requesting me to do a post that could help newbie Entrecarders. I couldn’t just disregard those messages and shrug my shoulders off. It would be lovely if I could get to share some things I know and I hope some people could derive huge advantage from it.

First off, one must understand what Entrecard did for me. It did wonders for my blogs- Our Journey to Forever and Kuerdas (please try to swing by those blogs). It gave me more than 300 hits a day and more than the hits, I came across wonderful blogs and made friends with beautiful people. I couldn’t have done it if not for Entrecard.

When I began taking dropping cards seriously, it’s taking me forever finishing my dropping chores. I read and read blogger’s articles because that’s how amazed I was in encountering these beautiful blogs. That’s where I learned some of the tricks and that’s when I’ve started experimenting changing my techniques.

WHERE TO DROP YOUR CARDS?

I’m telling you, when I first joined here, I do not know Popular blogs existed! I didn’t aimed for my blog’s popularity. My concern is only to drop my cards to fellow Entrecarders with the hope that they would reciprocate. But to my dismay, for about a month of hurdling to drop 300 cards daily, my efforts were for naught. Only about 30% were returning my drops and most of the blogs I was dropping my cards on have long been dead!

What an absolute waste of time!

When we see an EC widget, we would usually click “drop” on impulse. That’s how it is for novice. But let me emphasize here that every cards dropped counts. We need to be sure if the blogs we have just dropped our cards on would return our drops. It’s OK to drop on friends no matter what rankings they have at Entrecard. They would always reciprocate because they are friends!

DROP FROM THE POPULAR BLOGS

You may ask me, WHAT RANKINGS? In case you still don’t know it, I’ve slowly learned that every blog is ranked at Entrecard. ALL blogs are ranked according to POPULARITY. There are 52 categories and each blog is ranked according to popularity in each categories.

The rankings are the following:

  1. Deeply committed – Deadly serious. A drop master!
  2. Takes dropping Very Very Seriously
  3. Consistent, regular dropper
  4. Casual and relaxed
  5. Just here for the view

Here’s how you can get to know your blog’s rank:

  • Go to the CAMPAIGN TAB in your Dashboard
  • Choose POPULAR
  • Select ALL CATEGORIES
  • Order should be by MOST POPULAR
  • Choose NO MAXIMUM for Maximum Price.
  • Choose 24 rows per page (Top 120 Popular blogs will show on the first page).

YOUR 125 X 125 ENTRECARD WIDGET PLAYS A VITAL ROLE

Out of more than 15, 000 Entrecard members, it will now be very easy to recognize the Popular blogs if you get yourself familiarized with their avatars. Once you see them anywhere, you will get to know they are those blogs who have been doing crazy drops, day in and day out! I know these blogs even when my eyes are closed, haha! Now, I would dissuade anyone from changing avatars every now and then. You wouldn’t want to lose your regular droppers, right?

COLOR CODING

One thing important to know is the COLOR CODING at Entrecard. These are as follows:

  • Gold = Featured
  • Rose = Favorite
  • Blue = Ad purchased
  • Green = Dropped
  • Dark = Recently rejected
  • Black= Not yet dropped

I want you to take careful notice of these colors if you drop from the POPULAR BLOGS. If you have made a drop on a particular blog, the color will turn to GREEN, so there’s no need to go to the site. That would save you ample time. If the color is black, and you want to drop on that site, that’s the time you can visit the site and drop your card.

HOW IMPORTANT IS YOUR DROP INBOX?

Very important. The drop inbox will help you keep track who made drops on your blog everyday. If you have made drops from the Popular Blogs category, you will know from who among them have returned your drops.

It should be noted here that most of the popular blogs get more than 300 drops daily. That’s way over the 300 limit. It only means that NOT all the drops they get they could return immediately. The TIP here is to keep coming back.

MAKE YOUR PRESENCE FELT.

DROP.

READ.

If you think the topic is engaging, you can take part by commenting.

In my case, once I see new EC widgets that made drops on me, I don’t usually return the drops made. If I am that bad, I am sorry. But please understand that I need to prioritize those blogs who have been frequenting my blogs and keeps dropping those cards. I can’t miss returning their drops in favor of a new one which I am not even sure if they could still come back. After a couple of days of persistent dropping, that’s when you will be included in my favorites.

I do not know if blogs in the Popular category have been doing the same technique as I do. You can well ask them, too. These techniques worked well across my three (3) blogs: Lainy’s Musings,  Our Journey to Forever and Kuerdas. I will be doing the sharing of techniques in parts since it wouldn’t be possible to do it in one shot.

I will be very glad if this post could help you understand Entrecard more. If you have a better way of doing your drops, please feel free to share it in my comment section.

*NOTE: Kuerdas was deleted from EntreCard after a few months of publishing the post.

Bottom Lines

This post is to officially welcome a newbie Blogger. Bottom Lines, as he is simply known in the blogosphere, is one person with whom I have so much respect. I may not say it in so many words but I have so much to thank him for believing in me and my potentials- that I somehow deserve to be one of the organic employees of the Commission. I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for you, Sir! My heart is truly overflowing with gratefulness! :-)

Bottom Lines is not only known to be a simple and down-to-earth “boss.” He is also one groovy and fun-loving person. Unknown to everyone, Bottom Lines is a lawyer by profession and he now embarks into the world of blogging with the aim of exercising his passion for writing and to be able to share what he knows. You bet he has so much to share!

Bottom Lines is a mixture of everything. He also talks about his own personal life. The post entitled Why 40? would let you see a little glimpse of how he was able to hurdle life’s adversities while he was struggling to finish school. He blogged about his own son’s attempt in updating a dictionary. He also blogs competently about fish via the posts Aquarium, Something Fishy 1, and Something Fishy 2. Of course, he will never fail to share his thoughts about politics via the following posts:

1. Politics a la Philippines
2. Independence Day
3. Lessons from Cory

Do read his opinion and know more about the Automated Elections come May 10, 2010.

For all that it’s worth, Bottom Lines deserves to be in the spotlight. And why not? He is my superior , hehehe! Now does that deserve me a raise or maybe a promotion? What do you think?

It was only last week when my own movie, Hear Me Speak, was shown on silver screen. The Script Writer, Mr. David Funk of Basic Bloganomics was very creative in coming up with such a great story for the movie:

Here it is:

Hear Me Speak
Lead actor/actress: Lainy

Plot:

Never one to shy away from speaking her mind eloquently, Lainy expresses her opinions whenever she feels the need to. But suddenly, Lainy contemplates full retirement from blogging after personal and blogging issues become a bit much for her. She decides to make a return to blogging, but can she deliver the same great entries and have the same growing audience hear her speak again? Watch this dramatic tale of one blogger who makes the decision to comeback to doing what she loves to do. Windy makes a cameo appearance in the movie.

Note:

The amount of time producers allowed Lainy to drop ECs became an issue in the production of the film. As a result, Lainy nearly walked off the set until her contract was restructured to allow her to drop them as often as she wanted to. Windy also voiced displeasure of this, and producers had enough sense to not take a chance of them walking off the set.

Today is a red-letter day for one very special girl in my brother’s life. She is celebrating her birthday today! Because she is the Kuerdas vocals’ girlfriend, she automatically gained the position of Kuerdas Muse, thus, deserving a spot in my blog, hehe! ;-)

That's wacky Sarah!

That's wacky Sarah!

Sarah is a hardworking young lady. I am aware how difficult it must have been for a young lady like her to be physically apart from her loveones. She had to sacrifice her own happiness to be able to make ends meet. She has her own dreams to pursue.

Note: This video was created by my brother. That’s how she was terribly missed!

As a young girl, she had learned how to be independent. She had to send money to her family in the province in order to help them support for their basic essentials. That is truly an admirable act! Not too many young girls would be willing to do that in these modern times!

Being away from family means missing a lot of milestones like natal days and other family occasions. Good thing internet was invented!

Now that she is another year older, I wish nothing but the best for her. I wish she may be able to reach her own dreams and may all her heart’s desires be granted in accordance with the Lord Almighty’s precepts.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SAR! Many happy returns of the day!

Miss yah and Love yah!

It was a couple of months back when I was invited to be one of the authors for This is a blog which “provides a potpourri of the rich mix of cultures that is essentially unique in Southeast Asia. Cultures that are diverse and for many of the Southeast Asians it has not been without a multi-faceted Western/European influence from their historical past.”

SoS further aims to “deliver to the Blog Visitors articles ranging from Social and Cultural issues, Cuisine and local Culinary recipes, Folklore and Religious/Commune celebrations/rituals, the Sciences, Places of Attraction and New Developments, etc., etc., everything BUT NOT INCLUDING current Political issues in their Country – (the News Media is surfeit with that kind of information).”

I feel privileged to be one of the authors picked. I could hardly say “NO” to the invite. I am aware there are lots of Filipino writers out there with a much better creative writing abilities than me. I hope SoS could scout more Filipino writers for the blog in the near future. I’ve heard a 15-year old Filipino blogger was also picked. You better watch out for that!

What makes SoS different from the rest is it aims to gather featured authors, bloggers from Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

One guest author from Cameroon is also being featured in the person of my great friend, Uncle Che of Novice Master. You better watch out for his post come Monday, July 27.

Being true to Siren of SEA’s aim, I have published my first article tackling on the issue of religion and celebrations. The post is entitled:
