If there is one blogger who definitely deserves the Blogger of the Year Award, it’s no other than Windmill of Windmill on the Hill. He was the first recipient of the said award courtesy of Wordpress when it launched e-Zine.

Blogasm

I fondly call him Windy and he has been a very good blogging pal since I started out my blogging journey. He is one of the bloggers I admire and look up to for his writing prowess, intellect, fluidity of thoughts, sensible blog content and strong conviction.

He undoubtedly got a brilliant mind. He is such an inspiration and he is one of the bloggers who motivates me to improve and be the best blogger I can be.

Some people gets wary visiting his blog for his sharp tongue, hahaha

! But mind you! His humor could never be underrated.

One of the best posts that he got that is obviously my favorite is the published article entitled A Blogger’s Short Tale. This one is definitely worth the read!

Below are but only a few of his many lovely and striking posts where he often hits the nail right on the head! These posts  are absolutely a MUST read for ALL bloggers:

  1. “I Don’t Participate in Blog Ano-awardswards”- You really ought to READ this one, and I say READ fellas, especially if you’re one of those who don’t participate in blog awards…
  2. Linguistics- Blogger’s lingua franca
  3. The Poet Pretenders- A vivid description of what a poet pretender is and some tips on how a real poem should be written.
  4. Some People… Some People- It talks about two people who can’t handle things: winning and losing- which of these two is more damning???
  5. The Most Underrated Words- Why is it hard for people to say THANK YOU?

Way to go, Windy! I am so proud of you!!!

Thank you Pictures, Images and Photos

When I moved my blog over to Wordpress, I could have still maintained my domain name, www.lainyonline.com, but that was extremely difficult for me and I seriously needed help. I didn’t even know where to start. When I explained to a very dear friend of mine, DICKIE,  that I bought www.lainyonline.com from Google and it was automatically configured to work with my blogspot blog, he used his intellect, which of course is far bigger than mine in that domain, to realize that www.lainyonline.com could be managed at Google Apps. He logged into Google Apps and did some modifications on the domain name but then, he was limited by the setup there.

Dickie successfully moved my blog from Blogspot to Wordpress. It was not an easy task. I have been  forewarned by Uncle Che that a blog of my size will be very difficult to export (from blogger) and import (into Wordpress). Besides loosing some traffic and restarting with a Google PageRank of zero, I risk loosing data – both posts and comments.

However, I had no choice. The blog was hacked and this move was very necessary. Our primary concern was not even the traffic, pagerank or loss of data, but how to transfer www.lainyonline.com to Dickie’s hosting account at BlueHost.

It was at that juncture that we realized Google Apps won’t let us transfer the domain name. They won’t provide us with the transfer authorization code to initiate the transfer process. Why is that? Do they have a deal with GoDaddy (the registrant of all domain names bought through blogspot) to limit users’ administration of their own domain names bought with their hard earned cash? That’s annoying but there is nothing we could do about it. We went ahead and bought a new domain name www.lainysmusings.com. This new domain name, for a few days, has been the primary domain name for my blog.

My brilliant friend, Dickie, tried his best in tweaking the system and was hopeful to produce better results. UNCLE CHE, on the other hand, made some enquiries and found out that although we can’t transfer the domain name to BlueHost, there is a need to modify the settings through the Domain Manager (an extended service of GoDaddy used by Google for blogspot domains). He asked Dickie at BlueHost to provide him with his DNS settings. These settings, after implementation, gave Dickie at bluehost total control (except for the transfer process) over www.lainyonline.com. Transferring the content of my blog from www.lainysmusings.com to www.lainyonline.com is no piece of cake, but Dickie was able to make it.

I bet you he got Big Brains!

Now,  I can say everything is back to normal. My friends are doing their utmost best to recover any lost content. www.lainysmusings.com will remain active for some time, redirecting visitors to www.lainyonline.com.

I would be very grateful if you update your bookmarks and resubscribe.

Thank you for sticking! :-)

God Bless! I am Back!

Posted by: Scotty's Princess | Comments (28)
I have been pretty silent for the past couple of days. There has neither been activity from me at my blogs nor at my friends’ blogs either. You might think I was in hibernating. If so there was a good reason for it. The truth of the matter is that I was online the whole time. I was not dormant.
I know it would come as a shock to everyone.  Lainy’s Musings WAS HIJACKED. I had no access to the Blogger Admin Dashboard for my most precious blog “Lainy’s Musings”. It was not until today that I was able to recover Lainy’s Musings.
The trauma in losing the blog that is about  to celebrate its first birthday on April 26  and where Bloggers’ Celebration is taking  place was nightmar-ish!
I felt totally devastated!
The last time I had access to Lainy’s Musings Admin Dashboard was on Saturday, April 11. That was when I announced a  contestant’s disqualification. I discovered  something was amiss on Monday when I couldn’t  log in using the same account details that  I have always been using.
I am not pointing a finger at anyone. This untoward event had caused me distress and anxiety. Everything clouded on me and I did not  feel like blogging anymore! It dawned on me that having the writing competition was a  huge mistake. But my closest friends who were with me in this tough journey never failed in giving the support and encouragement that I needed most.
The ordeal that I and my one very good friend went through to retrieve my blog was  unthinkable. He even had to stay up all night  until the wee hours of the morning.
He knew all that had happened to my blog. Most of what he explained is beyond my comprehension as I am not blog-technically inclined. There were a lot of new things that I did learn about how it was possible for the hacker to hijack my blog.
I know more or less now how vulnerable Blogger (blogspot.com) is and how easily it may be hacked and hijacked. To explain the intricacies of how Lainy’s Musings was hijacked would need my friend to explain it to you because I do not think I am capable in rendering an intelligible explanation.
At the behest of my worthy blog-wise advisors, I have been persuaded to migrate to WordPress and operate this new Lainy’s Musings WP Blog from an external webhost. This is far more superior in providing the Blog protection as well as give me more direct control over the Blog.

Thank you Pictures, Images and Photos

I so love to have a Wordpress-powered blog. But my lack of knowledge on the complexities of Wordpress features prevented me from acquiring one. When my friend Uncle Che offered to do some Wordpress tutorials, I can’t help but feel ecstatic! I was all fired up in purchasing my own domain! What made it all the more exciting was when a good friend of mine in the person of Kuya Jessie, blog owner of Technology Talks invited me to join his contest for me to have the opportunity to Win a Free Web Hosting for my Wordpress Blog. And here’s more! Apart from the Free Domain Hosting, I can also have the chance to win cash and EntreCard Credits. Isn’t that exciting?

That being said, I would like to encourage you all to join this contest. You can actually participate in two (2) simple ways: by being a CONTESTANT or by merely just a VOTER. Yes guys! I will be needing your votes here as winners shall be determined by POPULARITY. If you have multiple blogs, so much the better. And if one of your friends have already joined, you still can vote for them and for ME as well using your other blogs.

Example:

My So Called Life votes for TWERLYN
Designer’s Chic votes for LAINY
May it be noted that the two blogs who voted for the 2 participants in the example mentioned above are owned by one and the same person, IVY. She was able to vote for our friend Twerlyn without leaving me out as well. What I would like to point out here is that if one has multiple blogs and more than one of his friends have participated in the contest, he still can show support to all his friends by voting for them using all his blogs.
Here are some of the contest MECHANICS:
FOR CONTESTANTS:
  1. RSS Subscription
  2. Blog Posting
  3. Encourage Readers thereby earning points.
  4. Convert your readers to become contestants (It’s YOU reading this post, hopefully, hehe!)
  5. Deadline for submission of entry is December 15.

FOR NON-CONTESTANTS (VOTERS ONLY)

  1. Blog Posting
  2. Deadline of submission of entry for voters is on December 30, 5PM.

WHAT’S AT STAKE?

  1. FREE Wordpress-only blog hosting for 1 year with 1500MB web space plus unlimited monthly bandwidth. Domain is not included as prize though.
  2. CASH Prizes for top 3 winners:

1st Prize: $25 (via Paypal) + 2,000 Entrecard credits

2nd Prize: $15 (via Paypal) + 1,500 Entrecard Credits

3rd Prize: $10 (via Paypal) + 500 Entrecard Credits

Five (5) voters shall also be chosen amongst all VOTERS which shall be randomly selected and receive $10 each (via Paypal) plus 500 EntreCard credits.

Now let’s start the ball rolling! Make your own entry now and have a chance to win!
