The Paradise Island Get-Away Part 2

THE KAYAKING EXPERIENCE
The beginning of the year was a blast! It was a time well-spent with my family. I absolutely had a terrific time with them. It was also one of the avenues for me to be able to conquer some of my fears.
The beach or the pool is the last place I want to be. Read. I almost died in November 19, 1995 for near drowning. I was at the Intensive Care Unit for 3 days with all the life-saving apparatus attached in my body. It’s actually my
second life. It was at the pool alright and I never gotten myself near a pool after that.
But I was able to conquer that fear a few years later. But still, there’s a feeling gnawing at me that the pool has a big hole and it would swallow me whole and that will be the end of me. Such thoughts kept bugging me everytime I come close to a body of water. It’s sure as hell is terrifying!
During the
Parsadise Island Get-Away, my fears were consigned to oblivion. I did kayaking with my brother. After the near drowning incident 15 years ago, I still haven’t learned how to swim. So is my brother.
I was tensed while getting myself ready for the ride of my life. I was frightened while I made my first paddle and slowly pulled away offshore. When I saw that we were heading towards the deep-waters, I was irrefutably panic-stricken. I can’t help but scream! I was hysterical while my brother was obviously amused at my discomfort.
I was only pacified when my brother exerted more effort in paddling. He also instructed me how to do things the right way. Without me realizing it, I was enjoying the experience!
I even had the chance to do biking at sea!
There’s one fear i wasn’t able to conquer though. Herpetophobia or commonly known as the fear of reptiles specifically snakes.
At first, I was all fired up in trying to conquer my fear. But when the snake’s skin touched mine, I couldn’t get to do it despite umpteen of proddings from friends.
If only I tried harder…
Overall, the island-get away was a relaxing activity to be with nature, family and friends. It was an opportunity for every members of the family to bond and renew camaraderie.
To be continued…
S U E
I wish you blue skies and all things nice,

Looks like a fun adventure. I’m glad to see your wearing a life vest. Which is a very good idea in the water while kayaking.
That biking at sea looks like fun too.
I don’t know if I would like the snake around my neck either!

Hi Sue! It’s great to see you here at my blog!
I wouldn’t allow myself to go kayaking unprotected and I saw the vest as my only protection. I truly enjoyed the experience and I look forward to doing it again in the near future.
Biking at sea was great! You can do it in your lonesome so long as you know how to man it.
No! No! ever for the snake ’round the neck.
BTW, happy two-year blogoversary. Will hop over your blog when I get home from work later.
See yah!

Hi Lainy!
I understand why you were panicked about going into deeper water after knowing your near-death experience. Your brother wasn’t going to let anything happen to you, and he knew what he was doing.
The pics are nice as always my friend. It reminded me of when I went canoe-riding in Oklahoma as a kid.

Lainy, good for you on conquering your fear. I cannot swim, either, and did not have such a horrific event as you, but did go underwater once when a canoe I was in tipped over. I remember going underwater, and struggling to get to my feet. Thankfully I was able to stand up in the water which came up to my chin, but was still pretty scared.
Don’t have a problem with the snakes, though. Went to my CR yesterday, and one had slipped in the window and was crawling around the floor. Only a little guy, about three ft. long. I clubbed him and took him by the tail and threw him outside.
Great story with some nice photos.

Yeah, yeah! I understand what you mean.
I haven’t tried underwater games as of yet but I think it’s fun. I don’t think I could get to do it though…

Wow.. Kayaking.. I never tried kayaking before coz I just hate the idea of the thing flipping upside down coz I can’t swim. I know with the lifejacket and everything, I’ll be perfectly safe but the idea of being underwater for even 5 seconds gives me the creeps. Oh, snakes.. I don’t have a problem with snakes, esp. pythons.. Coz they’re huge and slow.. Now if cobras, then that’s a different thing..

Oh… I am not sure when I’ll be going home to Davao. My February vacation is only in Manila. But I’ll surely make it to Davao next time.
By the way, I tagged you: http://www.ovahcoffee.com/2010/01/update-on-my-manila-vacation-and-tag.html
I know you are busy so it’s okey if you can’t do the tag. I just want you to know that I tagged you. Hugs!

Lainy, my Facebook account (Mary Anne Velasco) just got hacked minutes ago.
Please post on your Facebook
wall about this. Baka kasi someone’s using my account and photos for bad purposes. Let our friends know that it isn’t me posting those things.
As of now, I will not be Facebooking. Maybe for a long time. I am really really frustrated about this.
Thanks
