A Walk in the Park

My battle with hypertension has been a huge challenge for me for half a year now. I have been keeping a close watch on my diet. I was able to do away from eating lots of rice. I have learned to eat oatmeal and cereals.

For Filipinos, it is very difficult not to eat rice in a day. Obviously, rice is the Filipino’s staple food. You can just imagine how a huge challenge it was for me to skip eating rice. Aside from rice, I was able to control my intake of meat and salty foods My mother was forced to prepare food on a low-salt diet. I still insist on a no-salt diet which is always part of our daily arguments.

Apart from my diet, I am determined to do my briskwalking regimen. In the past weeks where work schedule was toxic, I was very inconsistent. I wasn’t able to meet my goal. Now I am back to doing what’s best for my health.

While doing my walks in the morning, I was able to enjoy the beauty of nature especially the newly inaugurated General Santos Park.

Do take a peek:

I’d like to thank my blogpal Windy for incessantly urging me to be consistent. He never got tired of encouraging me, even reprimanding me most of the time just to make it known that there is no other person who can look after my health but my own self.

I know what you mean about the rice thing. I love rice as we Hmong can’t eat a meal without rice either. I would hate the day that I found out I couldn’t eat rice anymore. I’m glad you were able to find an alternative.

What a beautiful selection of photos – and what a beautiful park for you to wander through. To make your walks more magical you could perhaps take a wild plant or tree seed in your pocket and drop it on the way round your walk. Perhaps you could do this each time you go and then next year see how many plants have grown that you have dropped along the way. I hasten to add that on occasion I too have done this. I have dropped poppy seeds and several varieties of wild flowers but as yet I have had none grow. If you do decide, just for fun, to do this on your little journeys then perhaps you could take a picture of any successes you may have had ….. I hope that you have more successes than me!
I do have more wild flower and bush seeds at hand so I will keep dropping them and hope that eventually one grows.

Another little point – have you had any correspondence from Slogbite recently? Has it wound up do you think? I haven’t heard anything for several months now.

Last but not least, my friend. You are looking amazingly well since you have had a rest and began a different diet. Just to keep something in mind – it has often been said that the Scottish people, who used to eat mountains of oats – (they can be used in place of cornflour for thickening, etc) were some of the most healthiest people in the world. It is only since many have begun straying from eating oats that they too have had problems in their health allegedly. So perhaps we should all consume many more oats, oatbran, oatmeal and oat recipes. I think that it may be an ingredient to haggis too!!!! I shall follow your example and eat much more oats – I really do enjoy them …. and I know that you can add chocolate to them to make delicious chocolate puddings ….. at least if we are a little bit naughty in that way we will also be a little bit sensible by eating oats. I am told that oat bran acts like a vacuum cleaner – hoover – as it brushes off the walls of the arteries and veins and carries the debris through the body making everything new and clean and working like a freshly oiled machine.

Have a lovely Sunday, dear friend. :) .-= Polly´s last blog ..White heather =-.
