It’s More Fun In the Philippines

It wasn’t too long ago when I asked, “What’s Wrong With WOW Philippines”?

Well, it seemed like the disagreement of the entire country to the much disliked Department of Tourism’s Pilipinas Kay Ganda slogan prevailed. Pilipinas Kay Ganda was a total junk.

What’s trending now is the recent tourism slogan formulated by the men and women of the Department of Tourism.

It’s More Fun In The Philippines

As I was about to write a post about this, I came across former COMELEC Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal’s wall status at FB which is very similar to what I think and believe in. By the way, if you failed to remember how handsome Atty. Larrazabal looks like, you can post- hop when I once had a date with him H E R E  .

Now if I may just quote:

“I like the new tourism slogan of the Philippines…And I think we should give it a chance.. See how effective it’ll be (whether it will be or not). We should all work to promote Philippine tourism.

But, I think some are too hooked on slogans and marketing, when what’s more important is the experience of the foreign tourist once inside the Philippines.

This includes arriving in the Philippines and disembarking inside a decent airport terminal with working toilets, where people don’t try to scam them for a few dollars even before they get out of the terminal.

Having clean and safe streets where tourists feel safe and secure. If something unfortunate happens (it CAN happen), they have the assurance that they’ll be taken cared of with reasonable speed.

Staying in hotels that continue to deteriorate through the years, without proper maintenance.

Adequate assistance and information on how to get to our tourist destinations (for example – how many people know how to get to Avalon Zoo? Is there a way to get there?). And once in the tourist destinations, they ought to feel that they’ll be safe walking around in the area (like walking around in Intramuros)… AND having working toilets in these destinations.

These are only some of the things that can ensure the tourists enjoy their stay in the Philippines.

Marketing and branding helps.. But nothing beats having a person return from the Philippines and tell his friends how much fun he had while in the Philippines, and can’t wait to go back and invite more of his friends to go with him.. That’s the best marketing/promotional tool we can hope for. That’s a great way to show how much fun it is in the Philippines!”

So aptly said, ain’t right? Government needs to do something drastic to improve the country’s image across the world.

Education could be the key. See Guide to Career Education to find possible solutions.

Let me just mention that in promoting the Philippines worldwide, the mass media also got a vital role to play.

But do you think the headlines below will help boost its tourism campaign?

Photo grabbed

It’s pretty ambiguous when these things you see ruin all the government efforts to promote a good image of the Philippines. Just as the campaign was beginning to get the nods of the public, here comes the media boasting of the crimes taking place in the country. This is just a wrong juxtaposition! What a massive fail!

Anyhow, I still hope that the tourism campaign will reap better results. Each of us has a role to play. Take part and help promote our country to the world. We aren’t called Pinoy bloggers for nothing :-)

Sloganeering is useless if we can’t execute and implement it. The new slogan of the Department of Tourism “It’s More Fun In The Philippines” is just a slogan if the people of the Philippines won’t help promote tourism, since I believe that it’s the people that tourists come and see, and the reason they visit.

In addition, I believe the best slogan for our tourism would still be “Philippines, Pearl of the Orient Seas”, because it is easy to promote and it brands our country as it is – a pearl, islands in the sea, and more.

    @Eli,

Hi Atty! It has been such a long, long time since the lat time you graced my blog with your honorable presence :-)

You’ve hit the nail right on the head, Atty. Everything will be for naught once the government will continue to dilly-dally in taking positive actions. It’s only but imperative to formulate clear-cut plans to address the issues that’s besetting the country when it comes to the tourism aspect, what with the millions of pesos allocated for sloganeering. The government should not focus only in sloganeering. It should be more work-oriented and start working on the actual problems that needs to be fixed.

YAY! Why haven’t people in the DOT thought about the Pearl of the Orient Seas? That’s an awesome slogan, Atty! Just a perfect adjective for the Philippines. To brand the Philippines as such will be very easy as it is popularly known to be indeed the Pearl of the Orient Seas.

Thanks for swinging by today and sharing some more substantial input on this post.

May you enjoy your Sunday in grand style!

Okay.. here’s my opinion. Sana hindi ako batuhin ng tinapay. LOL..

I don’t like it. Honestly. But oh well, bilang isang Pilipino, binibigay ko ang aking suporta. It’s a promise.. it is not just a tagline. Filipinos should work harder to prove that it really is more fun in the Philippines.

Pilipino ako. and I lvoe my country. Oh yeah, we have lots of beautiful beaches, breathtaking destinations, delicious food and the likes.. BUT..

It is never fun to have tourists see the fucked-up airports and be kept waiting inside a cab because of the Manila traffic. It is never fun to have tourists kidnapped and even killed for money. It is never fun to have tourists visit the country and then go home disappointed! And it is never fun to have the whole world make fun of us because we could not even prove that our slogan is true.

Let’s move Filipinos. Sabi ko nga, though I don’t like it, susuportahan ko to dahil akoý Pilipino. but I really don’t think that it is, in any way, BETTER than WOW Philippines.

    My opinion..

Wag nyo kong batuhin ng tinapay.. please! LOL..

Peepz will love you at siguradong di ka babatuhin ng tinapay. This is a free country anyway.

WOW Philippines I think is now a thing of the past for DOT people. But it soared high and brought the Philippines to a climactic surge during its glorious days. I also do agree with Atty. Eli to give Pearl of the Orient Seas a chance, too.

Anyhow, it will boil down to how the Filipino people support government campaigns. Let us all do our own little share coz when it’s put together, it will make a huge difference.

Someone also asked the same question you mentioned in this post ate Lains. Tama nga, will the new slogan boost the tourism in the country kung negative naman yung mga headlines on news papers? Sabi nga nila na instead of focusing into the DOT campaign, mas dapat daw pagtuunan ang crime problems sa bansa.. :|
It’s sad to know na maraming conflict in our country. Sana nga maayos na lahat para masabi na “It’s more fun in the Philippines.” But nevertheless, I still believe sa new slogan ng DOT. Mas masaya pa rin sa Pinas. :) Algene´s last [type] ..The Secret to Happiness

    @Algene,

Hi Algene! It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign.

Anyways, I hope this will click not only for us Filipinos but most especially for the tourists. Let us utilize our blogs and God-given gifts in writing to support this cause and in turn convince foreigners that indeed, it’s more fun in the Philippines. :-)

I like WOW Philippines a lot better too, Shei. Anyway, it’s just a slogan. We need concrete plans and action to help the slogan materialize that indeed, it’s more fun in the Philippines.

I agree with what you posted here, Lainy. I feel sorry because there are really a lot of destinations and sites to visit in our country, but you know, so many negativities are bogging us down to boost in many aspects including tourism. It is a truly beautiful country with very good manpower and environmental resources and definitely has so much to offer, yet, I feel that as time goes by, all these resources diminish – Pinoys migrating to other countries for better life quality and our natural resources being abused, not being preserved and well taken care of :( And then you hear all those kinds of news, tsk tsk! You’re right, that’s not going to help DOT’s campaign.

But anyweiz, I got to admit that the It’s More Fun in the Philippines slogan is kinda catchy, and I think is getting viral already :D I think I’m going to make some too and will share in my blog ;) KM´s last [type] ..BREAKFAST AT CORA

Hi Lainy. Marami na kong nakitang opinions about this and trending na nga all over the net. Kagagaling ko lang sa Taiwan just last month at it’s painful to hear na kapag narinig nilang galing ako sa Pilipinas, the first thing that they would ask my husband is, “Philippines? I heard that it’s not safe there.” Kung naintindihan ko lang, right on the spot, gusto kong awayin.

It’s absolutely more fun in the Philippines for us Filipinos, esp. Balikbayans. See, no matter how long we’ve stayed away from Philippines, we always long to go back home because, yes, it’s more fun in Philippines. But if you’re a tourist, all I can say is, you need to have a Filipino who’ll orient you first with what landing in NAIA or in any international airport in the country is like. You very well said it Sis and in Atty. Larazabal’s quote, too, about what it’s like to arrive in the Philippine airports alone. It is definitely NOT fun when you’re being welcomed with ” wala bang dollar dyan?” and some, would even snatch what you got jud. It needs a lot of disciplining jud ba. And look at those headlines up there pa! Those are definitely NO fun.

Anyway, I love how creative Filipinos are. Paggawas ani nga slogan, nagbaha dayon ang mga nagkalain-laing mga hulagway made by common men showing how more fun it really is in Philippines. :D

    Lainy,

Question: The “its more fun in the Philippines” presupposes that fun is the common value sought by the majority of tourists. Is that really what tourists seek?

    My Answer: Definitely NO.

Why NO? : It casts childishness about the purpose of tourist in general.

Tourists set on their destinations for reasons of rest and relaxation and the pursuit of new experiences or to rekindle fond old memories of a past visit.

Question: Does fun truly exists in the Philippines?

Answer: In a decadent sense, it does with the flesh trade in the Philippines. In a more legitimate sense, it is hidden from most of the tourists as they get to see the glamor and glitter but hardly get to know the inherent beauty of the Philippine culture in their homesteads and villages.

Crucial Question: Is there more fun in the Philippines?

Answer: NO. It does not it in the first instance show on the faces of the majority of the populace and in their daily lives?

Conclusion: An idiot made that slogan for the Tourism Industry in your country.
