June 9: Non-Working Holiday

In commemoration of the Philippine Independence, June 9 is declared a non-working holiday by the country’s President, Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo. Independence Day is traditionally celebrated every 12th of June but since Arroyo’s administration observes “Holiday Economics”, holidays would have to be moved to the nearest Monday unless otherwise modified by a law or Presidential Decree. The only holiday they can not move are those that are religious in nature.

Independence Day activities and celebrations shall still be observed on June 12. In Sydney Australia, June 9 is also a non-working holiday because of the Queen’s birthday.
