Firstly, I would like to thank every person that has contributed to this competition to make it a success. This includes all of the entrants, for their time and effort in giving a small part of themselves and placing it in print for the whole world to read; all of the Bloggers who have visited the links to read the articles and then voted on their preferred stories. Secondly, to Windmill who is a wonderful mentor to the Blogging world and tirelessly works to lend a helping hand whenever he can. He has made a couple of the banners for Lainy and has done a sterling job.
I was delighted when Lainy asked me to be one of the judges for her competition. Although it has been extremely difficult as the standard has been very high. I would therefore like to congratulate everybody, as everyone should consider themselves to be a winner. What has earned my awe and admiration are the vast quantity of entrants that have written some beautiful pieces in English despite English being the second language of many. I confess, I cannot either write or speak a second language and I appreciate the complications that arise with anyone attempting to learn English. Not only because many words have several meanings and different spellings but also because nowadays there is the added struggle of the different versions of English being in conflict with each other. For instance in England, people use taps to draw water to wash their hands whereas in America, they use faucets. English people when using the word schedule pronounce it as shed-youll whereas in America it is either sked-youll or skej-yul. The list and pronunciation appears to be never ending and on top of this are the endless slang words appearing at every turn.
To get back to the competition and what I was actually looking for:
Firstly, with all Blogging it is lovely to see an obvious passion.
Secondly, in any story or dialogue I was looking for individual originality.
Thirdly, the general flow of the written article and the ease and interest when reading it – also the desire to read it all the way through to the end (not getting tired or bored with the story or content).
Fourthly but not necessarily an overall requirement was interesting pictures to illustrate points made in the post.
Fifthly was the presentation and overall end result.
Once again, thank you to everyone, especially Lainy for all of her strenuously hard work, time and effort … Lainy’s competition was a definite success and every entrant did a marvellous job.
Little note to all of the entrants: A special thank you to you all. No wonder that you are all successful Bloggers, your entries to this competition only goes to prove this point.
Well done everyone!
