Indeed, there is power in commenting on other blogs. It’s taking me a long time to finish my daily tasks of dropping cards to Entrecarders because I take a pause, read and comment on topics that I can especially relate to and entries that stirred my interest. I don’t simply drop and run. I appreciate comments made by my co-bloggers here in my blog although there aren’t much, hehe! I prefer commenting than leaving my footprints in the tagboard section because cbox and/ or shoutmix’ characters are limited.
And here’s the catch! Get your blog indexed in search engine by posting relevant comments. Everytime I get to check my site, the first thing I take a look at are the comments section. I always see to it that I check out the person behind the comments posted. That’s added traffic for your blog. Commenting is one sure way of increasing your blog’s traffic. Of course, one must be cautious on what to say or else you will be in big trouble. Below are the things I considered important for a blogger to consider in posting comments on blogs:
- Do away with “Nice post” comments. I don’t consider this a comment. I’ve done this many times in the past out of habit and I don’t think it’s making sense at all.
- Add value and substantial input on the post being commented. You might love to share your own experiences or add new ideas to the post. Just be sure your comment wouldn’t sound like a tele-novela and even double the number of words written by the author, wink!
- Try to be nice and comment constructively. Never sound too critical and make stupid comments if you don’t want to be in deep trouble.
- Respect. Don’t get angry when your comment got filtered. The author always has the sole right in deleting comments not to his liking.
- Post comments on topics you think you have the authority to talk about.
- Be polite and sincere. Don’t comment just for the sake of commenting and leaving your self-serving links.
- Revisit the site. I always make sure I do come back on the blogs I’ve posted my comment on and see if it got filtered or if the author have made a reply. This way, interaction is encouraged and there is open-communication. You can leave your footprints after posting your comments especially for Blogger hosted blogs.
If you have more things in mind, don’t content yourself to be simply just a lurker. We already have an abundance of them.
Participate. Interact. Contribute.

I love comments, but I get a lot of spam. I made the mistake of being one of the first do follow bloggers on all my blogs and so my blogs are out there on lists all over the Internet.
I have a detailed comment policy on my blogs, but no one reads them. LOL
I moderate all comments and answer all posted comments. The only reason I delete a comment is if it is in violation of my comment policy or is just nasty.
I answer all comments on my blog and I hate getting email replies to comments, especially since they do not usually put my comment in the message. Worse, I get a generic “Thank you for commenting on my blog. Please subscribe to my RSS feed.”
Thanks for dropping your card on my blog. I appreciate it.

yeah a lot of spam comments grrr..
In my case I only comments those posts that are interesting to me sometimes I must admit I drop and run hehehe. I always like to read your posts, kay kuya Jess, basta rare lang medyo worthy tambayan ang blog especially pag magaling ang writer. I rarely give comments on paid posts. Mas prefer ko yung personal, research and something essentials.

Can I ask…how are you getting spam comments when you have word verification enabled? Is there something I need to do to protect my blog, even though I’ve never gotten spam comments?
I like commenting on blogs – especially the ones that give me the option to delete my comment if I make a mistake. Much, much better than email – once you push that send button, it’s a done deal and there’s no taking back what you said!
I also answer all my comments and let the discussion take the topic as far as it will go.

I think commenting on other sites is one way of getting traffic to your blog. I do feel very grateful for those who stop and leave comments on my articles. It makes me feel that my post is worth reading.
By the way, tukayo, I am lovin’ the look of your blog. So girly!
[Reply]
Comments are a necessity to not only tell the blogger about their content being good or not so good. However, if you see something that interests you, by all means tell the author something!

I have always considered the art of commenting as the “BEST SOCIAL NETWORKING TOOLS FOR BLOGS”. Your blog can be on BlogCatalog, MyBlogLog, Bumpzee… Irrespective of how much users of those communities interact with your blog, you still need their direct comments and that counts more than anything else…

very good post! i love how you shed light about topics worth blogging for. pretty much like jess! lucky to know both of you!

gosh I have to speak English here, all their comments were in english!hehe! Leyn, FYI, its my first time to comment in English!hehehe! I’m guilty on #7, I don’t reply or comment on my own post becoz they don’t get back on the same post(my post is not relevant man gud0..so instead I go to their blogs and leave a comment on their posts together with my answer on the comment they left.

I sometimes pose questions to my guests to encourage a thread of social commenting…Today the subject is “Do you light a candle or curse the darkness” in regards to voicing your wishes and dreams.
I dropped on you.

I hate EC drop and run, I got so irritated looking at my EC stats, I made EC page so they have to search for it. I have alot of friends on EC that’s the only reason I stay. The Add of SezWHo the other day was a big plus to stay.
Anyway, I am sarcastic so I always push the envelope, but, I follow the blog writers content when I write a post. (e.g, crude=crude comment, G-rated content=G-rated comment, etc)
I refuse to conform, but UR correct rudeness is not call for on many occasions. Happy Blogging

I admit I don’t comment a lot on peoples blog only if I can relate to the entry. But comment really makes me smile.
I aLSO don’t reply to to any comment on my own post,I just visit them back and will say thank you.

@ CYBERCELT:
Thank you for the additional input. I’m lucky I don’t get a lot of spams, hehe! It’s ok to lay down your comment policy. I must say it’s important to have clear-cut and detailed comment policy of sort. In the first place, it’s your blog and whatever policies they are, bloggers can either agree or disagree. But they have no choice, if they don;t agree, they can opt not to come back.
But the problem lies, as you’ve said, with the policy not being known because no one reads them.
Posting nasty and rude comments is a big NO! NO! If they do that, you have every right to delete their comments. It’s either they don’t like your post, they don’t like you as a person thus wants to malign you through your posts or they simply lack attention. But there is no excuse for rudeness. RESPECT is the key here to have a harmonious relationship between our co-bloggers. Though in reality, we are all friends and competitors at the same time, I believe it’s not impossible to create strong camaraderie and mutual bonds among us.
Answering your reader’s comments is one way to achieve and encourage harmonious relationship.
Thanks for always returning my drops.
@ JOY:
Yes Joy, interesting posts really attracts our attention and interest. That is why if we love to encourage commenters, we have to think of some interesting write ups as well. I’m no cyber geek nor a SEO expert but I am learning everyday. If we are ignorant on some topics or issues, it’s not bad to ask for enlightenment.
I couldn’t help but agree with you more. There are a lot of blogs that are not recognized but they have been around for a long time. These blogs are great ones and lots of them have moved me in so many instances. It’s because they write from the heart and their life’s experiences were shared to the world with the hope that we can learn from them as well. For me, I find these blogs really interesting and successful because they were able to touch other people’s lives.
@ THERESA KOMOR:
Hmmm, I don’t recall having said I’ve received any spam comments. I don’t have a problem with that now. Maybe you’re referring the question to CYBERCELT, the first commenter.
Yes, you’re right! It’s hard to retract once we’ve already hit the publish button and what’s making it hard is if there’s no option to delete. I have deleted a number of comments before not because of rudeness or nastiness though but it’s usually typo and grammatical errors.
I am having fun answering comments and I think we owe it to our commenters. I can not attend to them immediately though because of time constraints but I always try my best to post a reply.
@ ELAINE:
You’re right, Tukayo! Reading comments will inspire you to write more articles and will motivate you to always be good at it. Another avenue for growth and learning.
Thanks at nagustuhan mo ang new look netong blog ko. I owe my friend Ivy for this!
@ LINDA: :
Yes Linda. How would you hear out what your readers have in mind if they don’t say something? Being critical though can be said very nicely and in the right manner but not to the point of being rude.
@ AZ BLOGGING:
I couldn’t help but agree with you! I love reading comments. If people don’t post a comment, it’s either (1) they don’t like your write-up because it isn’t interesting or it is of less importance to them, (2) they are mere LURKERS. I’ve read somewhere that 90% of bloggers are LURKERS. LURKERS are “reading messages on an Internet discussion forum without contributing”.
@ MUMMY SHENG:
Thanks a lot Mummy Sheng. I am lucky as well to have know u here.
@ LERLYN:
Hahaha! Makalingaw man ka Lermz, oi! With our membership with EC, I think we need to post comments in English because most of the Entrecarders are English speaking. Besides, English is an international language, so to be safe and for us not to be called RUDE for speaking language that we only can understand, it’s better for us to speak in English, sort of practice, hahaha!
As for those commenters not going back at your page, I’m not guilty hehe! I always come back at that particular post because I would love to know the author’s reply. Never say your entries are NOT relevant. Personal diary categories I find more interesting and I am learning a lot from other people’s experiences.
@ BOND:
That’s one smart way of starting up discussions thereby encouraging bloggers to join in and share their thoughts. Thanks for the drop.
@ THREIO:
Yes, I agree that SezWho can do more wonders for our blog and will also give more reasons for us to stay. I still need to learn more about it, still groping but I hope in time, I will learn the “ins” and “outs” of Sezwho.
Yeah, it’s like rudeness begets rudeness. If you sound rude in your posts, don’t expect commenters will be nice with you. Indeed, nastiness is uncalled for. Let’s try to be always nice and friendly, smile!
@ MJ STERLING:
Same with Lerma Ivs. As for me, If I have more time, I copy and paste my reply here to the commenter’s page. That way, they’ll know my reply on the comments they’ve just posted.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS, INPUTS AND FEEDBACKS. IT TOOK ME AN HOUR TO FINISH WRITING MY REPLY, HEHE. MEANWHILE, I’LL BE RUNNING FOR WORK OR ELSE MY BOSS WILL KICK ME OUT, HAHA!
[Reply]
I agree with everything you say. However, I do think there are valid reasons why people may not comment and just read blogs other than lurking. Sometimes we don’t have sufficient knowledge to comment about the post. Sometimes the post needs no comments (as if the post is a beautiful photograph). Sometimes I just read and learn from a post and return again and again and maybe after several visits I feel comfortable enough to comment.

You are right my dear!
Anyway… i added u in my new blog. I hope u don’t mind
