Language is built by her users…

There are many words and abbreviations you hear people use all the time and you think those are just made up and informal but I guess you will be surprised when you start seeing them printed in books and newspapers, read out on TV and radio, and even included in dictionaries and thought in schools. This purely supports the fact that language is dynamic and is constantly built by her users. Take the word “Google” for example. People have been using that word as a verb for a very long time to mean “search the web”. For example
- I will go and google at the cyber café today
- She came in when I was googling
- I googled over an hour and couldn’t find anything about flying mats
After a long time of informal usage, the word google was officially declared a verb and included in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
Let’s have a look at another word “Medigap”. Medicare supplement insurance is an insurance that covers the gap in Medicare and as a result has been termed Medigap. For now, one may think it is just an informal word or shorthand but I assure you in a few months or years, you will find it in the dictionaries.
Eh! One more example! Can “Bloggress” be standardised for female blogger?
I wish you blue skies and all things nice,
