When the New York Post online news reported that Her Excellency, Philippine’s President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo lavished USD20,000 (PhP 960,000.00) for one night of extravagance at a sumptuous dinner, the Philippine nation was inflamed. The Lady President and her entourage were seen dining at one of the Top 40 establishments in the US, Le Cirque, a French restaurant.

There hasn’t been a day, since the news broke out, that it isn’t heard about the President being lambasted and crucified from all quarters in the Country. She is not only decried the by the local media, but also by the world observers.
Being elected to the highest position of the land, the entire Philippine populace expressed disappointment and disgust! The grandiose display of affluence while 3.8 million poor Filipinos are mired in dire impoverishment is absolutely detestable and revolting!

How far can $20,000 go?
It can actually feed hundreds of starved stomachs across the country! It makes me really sick seeing the poor families in the streets, opening trash cans and most have to go to the mountain of garbages scavenging for foods while our elected officials have the audacity to live in luxury, living the good life- lavish dinner, party, wines, etc…
These government officials could have violated Section 4h of the Republic Act 6713, or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, which states and I quote:
“Public officials and employees and their families shall lead modest lives appropriate to their positions and income. They shall not indulge in extravagant or ostentatious display of wealth in any form.”
The President and her allies actually have the nerve to belie the issue. Personally, all these hullabaloos have incensed me too. I feel utterly disappointed and devastated. Is this the kind of government that we can offer our children in the future? I wouldn’t be too happy if they grow up with the same kind of system that we have now. To see these corrupt officials living in luxury while too uncountable impoverished people at the grassroot level are in dire need of succour, I can not help but swear.
Where has all the religious belief , upbringing and education gone to?
The family as a basic unit in the society have big roles to play. Mothers should raise their children the best way they can. Never smother, pamper, or lavish them with too much of the material comforts of life even if they can well afford them. I am not a mother yet but later, I will teach my children to live within our means.
Matutong mamaluktot kung maiksi ang kumot.
I will teach them that there are more important things in this world- morality, dignity, character.
Fathers must spend time with their children, to teach them the virtues of hard work, honesty, fair play, sharing, dignity and compassion. Not just in your own homes, but at work, in school, everywhere you go. The parents should be good role models.
Be shining examples for your children so they will learn to be responsible adults who will carry and assure that family name for posterity continues with pride and honor.
I still believe that the future depends on the quality of our youth. That quality relies on the influences that they have – family, educators and teachers, peers, the church. Our country need us all.
I am trying my best to fight moral decay in the little way I know how because I know I won’t regret it when I become a mother one day. I will look back at my past misdeeds, miscalculations and any wrongs and pray that my children will do better than I.

Lainy,
Indeed, this is disgraceful what the President did. And there she goes giving speeches to her citizens how much she has contributed to the well being of the populace.
And of course needless to say, she goes to America begging for aid.
Arggggh! what a hypocrite that she is.
Thanks for sharing this on Monday Money Matters.
God Bless you Always!
That power-hungry, ambitious and manipulative lady’s lavish spending is so shameful and immoral, when the majority of the people she sworn in to lead and serve wallow in poverty, hunger, unemployment and hopelessness.
So what else is new? She’s been using the people’s money always to feed on her whims and caprices and for her to stay in power.
But there is always an ending as there is a new beginning. In the meantime, God help us Filipinos.

It has been the talk of the universe, the extravagant dinner. All the people were murmuring on these unfortunately it was only heard in the other side of the ear to our beloved President. No matter the bleeding words nothing would happened.:(

To quote what you said sis, “Mothers should raise their children the best way they can. Never smother, pamper, or lavish them with too much of the material comforts of life even if they can well afford them.” Sure enough, look at GMA’s sons now. They’ve got a number of houses here in the US that were bought when they came in office. Of course, you can’t blame me if I’ll say that’s how they were raised by their mother. And their dad. Arrrgggggg! It always pains me to know any mishap and misdeed that a public official in the country is being revealed. Of course, I am affected big time, especially when it involves money from ordinary people like me.
In short, SHAME on the Macapagal-Arroyo administration! Wa juy mapili nila!
