I am one of the many bloggers who is enjoying one of the countless perks of blogging- getting paid to blog. When I first came to blog, it’s primarily because I want to express and not to impress. Then came the companies who were able to lure me with a few bucks by writing for them. Indeed, it became a huge motivation for me to stay infront of my PC longer hours than necessary. And why not? I get to earn dollars by just writing a few words.
I am FOR paid blogging but while I get to enjoy the monetary aspect of it, we must admit that it also has its downsides.
BLOG CONTENT IS SACRIFICED
Though I have always believed and emphasized that quality is subjective, content is still KING. When one gets to write a post with a couple of paid links for advertisers and there’s a need to beat the deadline, the tendency is for one to be in a hurry and just write in random, include the needed links, hit the publish button and get paid. That’s all there is to it. I admit I am guilty as charged. Sometimes I even forget that there is a certain ratio needed for paid reviews versus personal posts- 1:2 is ideal. It’s hard to do it especially when one has multiple blogs (like me). I admit I can only manage to have one (1) interim post after each paid reviews.
What’s striking here, and frustrating I must say, is that we can see a LOT of blogs where every post is a paid post. Some even don’t write an interim post when there is no new assignment at hand. In my opinion, it will hurt our blog if we do that more often. Just take for instance this blog. It was ranked 3 by Google a couple of weeks back. When I grabbed assignments from one identified affliate for a week, my Page Rank dropped to 2. Why am I not surprised at all? I know Google is a little unpredictable but the heck with Page Ranks!
Now going back to paid posts, I do not know the technical consequences of it, but personally, seeing blogs bombarded by paid links is rather dismal. I always take more than three (3) hours a day dropping cards on blogs, reading and commenting. I admit there are a few blogs where I do the “drop and run” phenomenon. I am sorry but your posts must be bombarded with paid links. If it’s any consolation at all, majority of the blogs I get to spend more of my time are those that are very interesting to me and they are all worth spending my time.
I don’t want to cease being a passionate blogger. I truly enjoy the REAL perks of blogging and that is free speech. I can get to write whatever comes to mind in random, paid post or not. I don’t want to disappoint my visitors when they take time to visit my blogs and all I can offer are paid links. I don’t want to steal your time and waste it by letting you know that my advertisers have become my master. Though I don’t write for an audience, I feel I should be responsible for whatever things I write because I am involved in some communities where I am inviting my fellow bloggers to visit my blogs (EntreCard, MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog, etc.).
UNDERMINING READER’S INTELLIGENCE
While it’s true that most of us are paid to blog, a lot of bloggers have quite forgotten that personal posts should be written by REAL people. Some bloggers tend to plagiarize just for the sole purpose of breaking the monotony by writing paid reviews. Bloggers must exude prudence and decency to give credit to where it is due when quoting or copying someone’s work. We can not always undermine our reader’s intelligence more so fool them in believing that we are such a great writer. We are not fooling them but we are only fooling ourselves!
As what, Tony Feriozzi, Payu2Blog support staff warned and I quote:
“What I have run into a few times now is a blog full of 60 word posts with links, all paid and nothing else. That blog, if thats all it is, will eventually not get assignments. So do your best to do some real posts on your blogs if you aren’t already, it will be better for you and us. “
Let us all remember that with blogging comes responsibility. And blogging is not about how articulate and eloquent we are as a writer. It’s about the effort we put in by writing down our OWN thoughts, generating pleasure just by doing it and how we convey every message we wanted relayed to our readers (if there’s any, hehe!).
HAPPY BLOGGING TO US ALL!
I wish you blue skies and all things nice,

Hmm, I have never tried a paid post but it always seems to be the best way to make some decent money. It sure beats making small amounts from things like Adsense.

I totally agree with what you said. Sometimes, I feel that I am just writing nonsense stuff for the sake of few bucks. Everyday , there are available opps at PPP that I could grab, but I choose not to.Lalo na pag yong opps are against what I stand for. In short, if it comprises my faith, then I wouldn’t take it.

Yeah, indeed it is! Some are even doing it as their bread and butter. And for Filipinos like me, earning quite a few dollars from paid posts is great! But hey, most bloggers are also earning big bucks from Adsense. I wonder how they do it. Must be SEO experts

True Sis! I’m sure there are lost of available oops for you because you live in the US. FOr my part, I am not inlove with PPP, hehe. I grab one or two, depends on the offer. If I do a paid post, I always try my best to immediately post a filler post.

But the bigger issue here is when we bombard our blogs with paid post and nothing else. I wonder why these people still get a lot of oops. A sanction should be imposed or they should be banned from getting more oops. I hope I don’t sound too harsh?

I never chose to do paid blogging. I think for just this reason. My blog is about my pregnancy with cancer. I chose to do it as an outlet at my docs advice. I really had no clue it could get so big. I have since put a few adsense ads on there, because why not. I may as well try and I figured maybe it MIGHT help with medical bills. I don’t see a whole lot of earning there but I held back with the paid blogging because I truly need to be able to just say what’s on my mind whenever I think it. I am not at all against paid blogging. I figure hey, if you can do it great! I wish I could but it doesn’t work with what I am trying to do on my blog…so I never tried. Well, blogging for me sis is a personal journaling. and ever since i blog for money, i haven’t changed my way of conveying my message. if u have noticed my definition of me in my blogs, it has always been my way of writing which is expressing and never impressing, be it writing to get paid or not.
let me quote ur last sentences:
“And blogging is not about how articulate and eloquent we are as a writer. It’s about the effort we put in by writing down our OWN thoughts, generating pleasure just by doing it and how we convey every message we wanted relayed to our readers (if there’s any, hehe!).”
Well, my logic is:
if we write our own thoughts and feelings, we become articulate and eloquent in our writing.
i have been blogging for money for some time now, and like you, i have noticed blogs that are with posts which are all paid posts. BUT i am no advertiser so i’ll leave them that way.
after all, i know they’re old enough to know their responsibilities, and even then, if they plagiarize, i know there will always be an end to such act. good luck to them then!
happy weekend and keep blogging!

@ RARE JONREZ:
That’s what I love most with you, Sis. You are never selfish in imparting your thoughts in anything. FOr that, I truly appreciate you BIG time!
I personally believe that writing is a gift and not everyone is endowed with that gift, if you know what I mean. Everyone can blog but not ALL can “write”. That’s what I meant by eloquent and articulate, Sis. But you’re right. We can always recompense our lack of writing ability by writing from the heart because it will be very evident in our respective posts. I admit I am never that skillful, but I have always tried to pour my heart’s out when writing. If it’s still not good enough, the visitors can opt to never come back.
Sad to say, numerous bloggers are not that responsible. It is never the intention of this post to malign or insult bloggers who are doing paid posts because I am one of them, too. But we can always make up for the paid postings by coming up with interesting contents not only for ourselves but to our readers as well.
I am no advertiser too but I READ whenever my time would permit me. And since I drop 1, 200 cards everyday without fail, the SPLOGS out there has never failed to catch my attention because many of them are dominating EntreCard these days. When EntreCard was just starting out, it’s very rare that I see blogs doing paid postings all through out their blogs. But with the fame that EC got, I think they are having a hard time weeding out garbage blogs. One of the updated guality standards of EntreCard is to REPORT blogs which are polluting the system and the EC admin shall take action by deleting those reported blogs. Of course, I wouldn’t want that happening with my fellow bloggers. It’s the intention of this post to remind us to not just shrug our shoulders off but be MORE responsible.
Actually, more and more people are leaving EntreCard because of the above-mentioned reason. You can read more from here: 8 REASONS TO QUIT ENTRECARD.
Happy weekend, Sis!

Yeah. That’s what I meant with this post. Doing paid reviews is not a crime but it sure is hurting our blogs. Before, blogging has become a venue for expression. Now, it has become a new avenue for earning, I don’t really see anything wrong in it as long as one is being responsible because we owe it to our readers. A blog isn’t a blog without readers and it’s success lies with them.

Hi, Te lainy!
Just last month my blog has been approved from PPP. I understand why some bloggers have 6 posts in a day, that’s because they can grab 3 opps and had to write original ones in between.
Although PPP doesn’t require interim posts anymore, I still try to write posts in between just because I got used to it. If I find more time, I add more posts dating way back.
Sometimes it’s kinda irritating to read some paid post esp if it’s like in Payu2blog that you can just insert the anchor text in whatever topic you’re writing. Nakakaloka, kase you’re reading about some topic then jumping into another just for the sake of inserting that anchor text.
Anyway, I don’t know if I am doing a great job trying to relate my paid posts in real life. I have lots of opps but I don’t write unless I have something to relate to in my life. But some advertisers like “review” of their site and that’s the time that I have to think hard if I will take that assignment or not cuz I’m not good in reviewing things.
It’s fun that non-bloggers don’t really know the difference of paid post to an original one. And since I relate my opps in real life, my old buddies relate to me in every way. That’s really cute.
As for most mom bloggers like me who does paid posts, I understand why they do that now because we need to earn some while watching our kids and we get to do that through paid blogging. We just support each other.
Still I feel I don’t write just for the sake of writing full of paid ones because even if I write a short 200 word article, I give my whole heart into it. And right now, I’m working on a niche blog and I don’t want to put paid posts into that, ever.
wow, haba na nito. haha.. I should make one post regarding this one. LOL.
